Awesome. Glad that hopefully the back-up situation has been solved for now rather than the continuing rotation.

Very good pickup.

Chad Johnson wasn't ready. Let him develop some more.

Auld is a solid backup.

Auld makes $1 million. The Rangers are on the hook for half of his prorated cap hit ($113,989.50, thanks RangerBoy).

By the way, props to Vitto79 for calling this move!

great pick up by the rangers. Pretty decent backup with some experience for nothing. Our young goalies certainly are not ready to play the tough games down the stretch when lundqvist needs a break.

Auld is in the last season of a two year contract he signed with Ottawa. 2 years/$2 million. Less than $125,000 now.

The trouble is that this is becoming a trend. The Avery fiasco IS harming them and this just piles on.

Solid pickup. Let's Johnson get some playing time in Hartford while having a solid goalie play in place for Henrik during this final stretch.

Good move. I mean why not? He'll solidify a backup role and he costs less than CJ, Vally and Zaba. Seems like it was a no brainer to claim him.

This is not a big move and shouldn't be a big deal. But, thanks to cap mismanagement and complacency (who needs a real backup when we have Lundqvist!), it's bigger than it should be.
Just goes to show that you need depth at every position--regardless of how great the starter is.

And thankfully, Johnson can get back to doing what he needs to do--practice and play regularly, rather than play human yo-yo.

This is nothing like the Avery "fiasco". Auld is FA after this year and Avery was making 4 mil a year (or close to it) for multiple years.

That was my first reaction. However, I have to think it's an issue of actual dollars rather than salary-cap. They aren't going to need Auld the rest of the season (and probably couldn't trade him for anything of value and didn't want to pay someone they got in return) so why pay him the rest of his salary when you can pay half instead? Makes financial sense in some regard.

This my fellow Ranger fans is a good pick up.

Over/under starts for Auld,

5 games,

But 5 winnable games.

Gives Chad time to develop in the minors, good move Glen stay sharp the next couple of days.

That makes 2 players that Dallas has to pay some amount of dues to while they play for us.
