Ryan Potulny to Pittsburgh

Would the Pens have any interest in him?

He has 14 goals in 44 games this year after netting 38 goals in 70 AHL games in 2008/2009.

He is only making 595k and could most likely be re-signed for a couple more years at around 1 million dollars.

Pittsburgh could probably get a couple 20 goal seasons out of him on the cheap if they use him on the PP and that would offset some of the bigger contracts on the Pens.

From Edmonton's perspective we have players coming in like Eberle, MPS, Hall/Seguin , plus a healthy Hemsky so Potulny will be likely not be getting as many PP minutes and might be pushed down the depth chart so it would be a case of selling high.

Would something around Potulny for Pittsburgh's second round pick be fair?

Isn't he a natural centre? Pens biggest need on the PP is a Holmstrom screen the net type. A 2nd seems a steep price.

I would prefer the Oil just hang on to him.

I think the Pens need a veteran type more.

I also think the Pens biggest PP need is a good right-handed shooter on the other side of the ice opposite Crosby, Malkin, Gonchar. Pens just get no production from the guys on that side of the ice.

The Oilers have no reason to trade him at this point!

I really like Potulny from his Flyers days. I would absolutely hate to see him on the Pens. They're probably looking for wingers though and Potulny is a center. And why would the Oilers get rid of him in the first place? He has been one of their best players this year.

It's mutual. I hate ex-Flyers on the Pens and ex-Pens on the Flyers etc.

Pens are looking for wingers and a D-Man @ the deadline, imo. I think they'll be after veteran types and not young guys like Potulny, but that's just a guess.

Potulny plays center & wing from what I've read. Oilers fans would know for sure.

I really doubt they're looking to get rid of him. The Oilers need all the young talent they can get.

Being one of the Oilers best players this season isn't really saying much, though.

Why trade a fantastic cap-friendly, cup-winning 2nd round pick? Ours are the most valuable of them all!

I can see him becoming a Martin St. Louis-lite (late bloomer, blistering shot, great one-timer, strong on his skates). I think I'd prefer just to keep him and see how far he can take his game.
