Ryan millers play in net for the national stage, ovechkin and the russians forgetting to show up when it counts are great hockey stories. I will always remember these olympics. While thornto/marleau/heatley or even crosby could get hurt i will forget who they lose to in the playoffs while i will always remember the other stories i mentioned.
Would you rather the US won the gold or the Sharks win the cup?

I'd actually be curious about the poll now, I had assumed most people thought like me and Chomp, but maybe not. The olympics are a fun little tournament with some good hockey, but honestly, I the amount I care about it doesn't even sniff the amount I care about the Sharks, and if the olympics didn't happen, I wouldn't notice. If hockey seasons don't happen, or the Sharks really suck, I become incredibly unhappy.

If it wasn't this would look like the NFL All-Star game and players would stay home with little bumps and bruises.

I don't think everyone's tune is going to change. Its the risk of matching country against country and a risk players and a lot of hockey fans are OK with.
yeah, and look at players on teams that had no hope. Griess, Goc, Erhoff, and everyone else on team Germany. They knew that even bronze was unlikely. They did it because simply to be there is an honor.

On second thought, drury could get injured and be out for the year. I love the olympics even more now.

I just realized that two of Canada's four lines are made up exclusively of PacDiv players ... I guess it isn't significant, just interesting.

And that's game, folks.

Worst PP I've ever seen, followed by complete Canadian dominance. Watch your step on the way out, guys.

Pavs was dogging it on the coverage that led to the goal. He hasn't been very impressive in this tournament.

yup, Canada is playing with double energy tonight now, and Miller's sheilds have been broken.

Lets face it, RW will always bee a bridesmaid and never the bride.

Ask them the question again in April and see what they say. Or even ask them in October before an Olympic year. I'm sure they see it as an honor, but kids in Canada and America don't pretend they're scoring a goal to win a gold medal, they pretend they're scoring to win game 7 of the SCF.

Not saying they don't see it as an honor to play for their country, but they don't put anywhere near the amount of effort they put into winning the cup (a full 82 game season and at least 16 playoff games). Or at least I hope they don't.

There is no question of either/or for me. The clear cut answer is both. The stanley cup would likely matter more if i had to choose but its not by much. World cup/canada cup/olympic hockey is very very important and can enhance legends much in the same fashion the stanley cup finals matter. When you think of gretzky/lemiuex how much does the 87 canada cup matter. Lemiuex credits that tournament much for changing the way he thought the game and how he acted.

Even thoug its sacralidge im cheering for canada

Not worried. Canada led 3-0 in their last game and almost gave it up to the Slovaks.
