If nations were NHL teams?

Team Switzerland would be the New York Islanders, a bottom dwelling team that focuses on playing good defense and hustle all the way to make up for lack of talent.

Team Russia would the SJ Sharks, the most talented team in the event but comes up real short when its playoff time.

GErmany would be the CBJs, a not terribly talented team that never overachieves.

Perhaps Barbados, or Bermuda. A place where older hockey players like to go, but not a place where good hockey comes from.

I know I'm basing this more off historical nature of the franchises than current play style, but for my money Finland is either New Jersey or Dallas.

I agree with Sweden as Detroit.

Russia - Washington.

Latvia - Islanders

Norway - Phoenix (before this season)

Slovakia is the New Jersey Devils of the 90's - Good goaltending, trap and win low scoring games

USA = Colorado Avalanache. Not that talented, expected to do very little, but works very hard, gets great goaltending, and shocks everyone.

(Not that I think the Avs will be in the SC Finals or anything.)

Slovakia reminds me of the sens from the early 2000's. Not going to beat you by 3-4 goals, but play great defense and score timely goals. (maybe thats because they have a few former sens!)

Show me a national team with more NHL players, points scored, time on ice in the NHL or whatever than USA with the sole expection of Canada. THERE ISN'T ANY.

The only reason people were expecting you to suck was how rarely team USA shows up for international events. You had the 2nd best material available and this time you didnt underachieve (come on 4th line Bobby Ryan, that guy would be top 1 forward in team Finland).
