Team finland v.next

So it's a sad goodbye to Selänne, S Koivu, Lehtinen, Peltonen and surprise surprise, O Jokinen.

So what does our team look like now? Or in the next Olympics?

Filppula - M Koivu - T Ruutu
Osala - Granlund - J Jokinen
? - ? - ?
Bergenheim - Nokelainen - ?

? - ?
Pitkänen - Lepistö
Vatanen - Laakso

Rask
Niemi/Niittymäki/Lehtonen/Rinne

Left out generally players aged 32+, some exceptions in defence as I reckon they have longer careers at the top (Chelios, Numminen)

Summary: No superstars, only potential being Granlund. What really does us in imho is how the many first round picks that we've had in this last decade, only a handful have panned out. This would look 10 times better if Tukonen-Nokelainen-Korpikoski had all panned out, and Jesse Joensuu would have delivered on his promise. That'd leave us with a solid set of forwards. We desperately need Osala to make the NHL, he's exactly the right fit next to Granlund imho.
What really worries me is defence, we absolutely must get defensive monsters if we want to compete with that, hrm, average but hard working set of forwards.

In goal, we're stacked. We could trade a few goalies..?

So all those saying our hockey is in deep trouble, you are right..

Ruutu-Koivu-Filppula

Solid 1st line

Osala-Lehtera/Granlund-Lehtonen

Osala and Lehtonen already have good chemistry since u-20. They have big size and they can skate and use body and make room to Granlund or Lehtera. Both have very good shot. Osala is good 2 way player aswell. Lehtonen is very good in the PP because his shoots quickly and its hard and accurate. Made most of his AHL goals in the PP Straight from pass.

Bergenheim-Granlund-Jussi jokinen

Granlund needs a player who makes space for him and can keep puck on the boards. He needs a guy who puts puck in the net aswell and Jussi Jokinen can do that.

Nokelainen-Korpikoski-Komarov/philstrom

Philstrom and komarov are good 4 liners Korpikoski is very good PK player and have good skating ability. Don't know much about Nokelainen.

Hard to predict but these lines could be good in 4 years.

Lehtonens been that good in the AHL ? He's really developed in leaps and bounds since his years with Blues..

Looking at those stats.. I keep thinking why do we continue to ignore AHL players in the national team?

Lehtonen has most points and goals in his team. He has improved alot in AHL. Toughness, Shot and overall game. Hes ahead of osala at the time. He was best goal scorer of his team last year aswell. He was chosen in AHL all-star game as only finn and scored 2 goals. Osala and Lehtonen have good chemistry already from WJC and year in blues. Both can score goals. Granlund and lehtera can feed em. AHL is very underrated league. AHL is 3rd best league of the world. Your not onlyone who have been thinking why we won't take AHL players. We take Kalle Kermans, ville vahalahti, Santala who are midway of their career and no future in national team instead of young players who have played well in AHL and they have bright future in national team. We should quit taking players who are like 30 years old and stuck in FEL we should take players who are under 25 and play well in AHL and gonna play NHL in the future. We need a coach who have balls to take young players.
