low risk high reward.
the worst that happens, is he stays in the AHL or the ECHL and never pans out.
Get him in here, work with him over the summer and see what happens.
Is this contract effective this season, or next?

right now to me he sounds like Teddy Purcell. not much of a NHL future, but good in the AHL. Hopefully we can get something out of him

That our AHL next year maybe? Perhaps something similar?
You're forgetting Dave Labrecque from the group.

Pretty decent comparison, but I never saw NHL potential in Luke. However, I only saw him play two years in the Guelph defensive system that kills most skill players. His numbers exploding as soon as he left Guelph shows the skill he has, but I really have no idea what his future holds now. Absolutely nothing wrong with adding to the prospect pool in this fashion, however. Especially since Holmgren has traded every pick we have until 2018.

I'd personally give Labrecque one more year in the Q unless he starts to show something special late in the season or over the summer. His numbers this year are good but not great. He's actually got 4 less points than he had all of last season in the same amount of games, while he has picked up his goal scoring.

not impressed. I do not think he has NHL potential.

I guess Homer will trade some forward from Phantoms. Maroon or Matso?

Or he is trading a forward from the NHL group and replacing them with a player from the AHL. Less likely, but still possible.

Or he is trading away more picks, and this pickup will replace a drafted player.

I haven't seen Pither a lot in the past few years, and his time in Guelph isn't indicative of his abilities. But Kaktus is dead right, based on everything I've seen, heard from Belleville and Barrie fans, and Brock - his opinion on OHL players is gold.

Yep - if he turns out to be a capable AHL'er for life, that's fine. If he turns out to be an NHL'er, it's a total win.

A zero risk move - can't hurt.

I took the info from Brock as a good thing. He just needs to work on being alittle more...nasty/hardworking. Thats not that hard to teach, also since your a Flyers prospect now, your expected to be hardworking.

Im willing to give him a chance in the AHL first.

the positives are:

you can teach defense better than offense.

and Danny Briere has 500 NHL points

If I wanted to use word suck I would use it. Like I used it to describe Emery.

I this case I said I am not impressed. 21 year old I would say soft player playing against 18, 19, and 20 year olds. Scored 30 goals for the first time. I do not think Flyers could use him as a role player because thats not what he is.

What do you mean I am not giving him a chance? I just said that I do not think he has future in the NHL. Obviously you disagree.

He also might be one of those players who fills out and gets a lot stronger in his early 20s and erases some questions.

A talented low risk signing, if he turns out to be Matsumoto, who cares?

I don't disagree that there is potential there. I do have a concern about softness - the desire to fight along the boards and go into corners and come out with the puck isn't something that can be taught. It can be refined and techniques can be taught - but desire is almost impossible to teach.

The lack of attention to defense astounds me, actually. Guelph is the 2003 New Jersey Devils of the OHL. They score very few goals, but if they can get a goal or two on the board, they immediately switch to the trap. And they play it very well. Boring as ****, but effective.

I'm absolute willing to give Pither a shot. I don't expect much will come of it, from an NHL perspective, but it's well worth the chance.

So hold on a second, you comparing him to Matso.. That is IF he fills out and MAYBE gets stronger and IF erases some questions and then maybe he will become Matso type of player.

So when I said I do not see NHL future in him you have a problem with my statement and ask me how many times I actually watched him play?
