Anton "A-Train" Volchenkov

There appears to be a snag in Ottawa trying to get AV re-signed.

He is a UFA this summer. He's currently makes 2.5 Mill and I imagine he is looking for

a. a raise
b. maybe a new start with a new team

He's 28

What do you think? Is it worth it to deal for him if Ottawa puts him on the block? Seems like a beat move for them , but if they think he's moving on they might get more for him now than being stuck trading his negotiation rights in June.

If he does go to Free Agency whats he worth?

He must be asking for a decent chunk of cash.

Im one of the people of the opinion that because we have many more defensive prospects close to NHL duty that we should be shedding our Defensive UFAs and looking to sign a star forward.

I aleardy jumped in the A-train bandwagon a long time ago... So I'm ok to make a deal for him but only if we can sign him this summer... Don't know what the Senators would ask in return, but I think they would like at least a legit and decent Dman in return for they PO run.

I know we have some nice D prospects. I know our #1 need is for scoring...but we don't have anyone like A Train.

He blocks your shot THAN he runs you over.....

consistently

Staal - A Train would be very nice imo

Except that they both shoot left. You find a right shooting shutdown guy i'll be more interested.

at 5 mill would you rather have AV than Rosi?

Maybe Ottawa would appreciate a guy who's already all signed up fo a while?

I know still overpaid

If Murray can't lock him up, I can't imagine him being manageable for us. Not to mention it will cost a fortune to get him via trade because we're conference rivals in the playoff hunt.

$3.75M / 4 Years is the max I'd pay

That'l let him walk as he's leaving his *prime*, and gives us the crease clearing, gritty defenseman we need. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets Komisarek numbers though.

Ottawa is no doubt offering him that kind of money right now. He's already making $3.5 mil this season, and is probably looking for a raise upwards to $5 mil. It'll be tough to see him walk, but If I'm Murray, I'd rather not pay him more than $4.5mil. I highly doubt he gets traded unless it's an overpayment.

I'd frontload A-Train. 6,6,5,4,3 @ 4.8m hit.

I think that's a little excessive.

Still, there's just no way we can justify paying a shutdown d-man $4MM+ per year.

Time to start thinking less Volchenkov, and more Shane O'Brien.

I don't see why he would. They're competitive, he gets a lot of ice time, and they treat their players well.

Heatley is a baby and cried foul when he got his ice-time reduced. I don't see what Volchenkov has to complain about other than the terms of a deal. It could be years more so than the salary, but who knows?

Well he may just want to see what offers he gets July 1st. Always tempting for a desirable UFA.

Yes the rangers should make a run at Volchenkov in the offseason. He is the type of defensmen that this team is missing. Pair him with Staal and the rangers will have a shut down top pair.
