But he's so good and powerful! He injured Tanguay last year so he'd be useful!
Reading some of the more size-obsessed posters you'd come out with the impression that the Habs' most pressing need, the thing that would transmorgify the team and save the season, was a big fourth-liner prone to bad penalties who just got traded for a minor-leaguer.

You don’t wish we had a more “balanced” (complementary inputs/attributes) forward squad? Size is not a panacea but carrying too many Smurfs upfront is asking for troubles imo.
As for Artyukhin... I don’t really “know” him but he would look better than D'Agostini on 4th! Though, on second thought, I can see White or Conboy playing on 4th in 2010-11... for half the money Artyukhin, a soon to be UFA, will obtain.
Like I said in the other thread(whatever happened to it?) we could sign him next summer. I would like to see him on a line with Andrei. It could be interesting and help Artyukhin offensively .

The size issue is severely overblown, especially with Andrei K and Pouliot coming back today. Size is not the root of this team's problems in any case. Sure getting bigger might help, but not at the expense of speed, and those two do help the "balance" of the forwards considerably. It's certainly more important for a new acquisition to be a capable hockey player than to just be big, something which some seem to lose track of on occasion!
At any rate, if the team does need size, adding a 6'6" guy for 8 minutes of fourth-line play is not going to solve that problem. If it would, we'd have kept Laraque.

I agree but I need to add something!
"... It's certainly more important for a new acquisition to be a capable hockey player than to just be (1) big..." or (2) another freakin’ tiny, speedy buzzing bee!

Moore fills a need...1-upgrades the bottom 6 2-upgrades our faceoffs 3-helps our PK and take some of that responsibility off Gomez or Pleks
...but people still complain.
A cheap addition would be Voros, especuially if we can trade Metro and/or D'agostini, gets us bigger in the bottom 6.

Just for the record: I like Moore... especially with (1) Maxwell (he is only 21 so no reason to panic!) not progressing as fast as I was expecting - I really liked his 2008-09 training camp – and (2) Lapierre not giving us the same kind of input than last season. Though to be fair, Lapierre did respond well when Martin gave him increased responsibilities.

And with good reason. I also dispute that he fills a need. Or at least, if he fills any need, it's on the very low end of our priority list. Any minor upgrades he provides on our bottom-6, faceoffs, or PK shouldn't be considered much of a "need" IMHO.
Anyway, if he re-signs, affordably, it could still turn out ok-ish. Although I still will never understand why, if Gauthier likes him, he just didn't wait 20 games and offer him $1M on July 1st.
2nd round picks matter. Latendresse, Maxwell, Kristo, and Subban matter.
Guys like Moore, who I still like, are available for just cash every August. Prospects like the above are not. Even with the occasional Urquhart scattered in amongst them.

It might also abolish Andrei's offensive production.
Artyukin is a 4th liner that skates fast and sometimes make a big hit once per 10 games but he also takes two bad penalties per game. I'm unsure thats what we need, and I'm certain I wouldn't have him play on a first or second line.
