I don't want Gillis to pay through the teeth for a rental. Someone like Hamhuis I can understand, as he's young enough to be a long term solution as well as a stop gap for this season. If it's a good hockey deal, I'd like to see Gillis do it.
Hey guys, apparently Hodgson can't play 3rd line center the next few seasons behind Sedin and Kesler. 3rd line center is the perfect way to break him into the NHL, when the time comes and Hodgson is too good for that role Kes can always swing over to RW.
With Lukowich being waived I'm having trouble seeing the Canucks not making a move for a defenceman tomorrow. Even if Bieksa is back soon, with Mitchell looking to be out for a lot more time, they could fit Bieksa back in with Mitchell on LTIR.
I don't think you take the risk of losing an NHL quality defender for nothing going into the stretch run without having a plan in place to replace him. If Mitchell isn't ready to go by the end of the season and Lukowich is claimed, the Canucks depth is Salo, Ehrhoff, Edler, Bieksa, O'Brien, Rome, Baumgartner. Yikes.
The one we've been going on about since that whole Schneider for Backes fiasco, and the exorbitant amount of scouting going on between the teams.
Could end up being something really minor, but hopefully it has some merit.
Anything to upgrade the bottom 6 and solidify our D core while Mitchell/Bieksa hopefully get healthy. Just do not trade Hodgson. Schnieder or Schroeder I can deal with, same with many of the mid-tier prospects or Hansen.
so which teams if any will be sellers tomorrow if they lose today? there looks to be quite a few teams with soon to be UFA's that they will lose for nothing while not making the playoffs either.
Apparently we brought Mathieu Schneider in to be our "3, 4 or 5 defenceman". Seriously, could Kypreos and this Sportsnet panel be any more out of touch with our team?
Hamhuis looks alright, but not for an overpayment. Maybe NSH will take one of our small skilled forwards.
Can't see MG trading any pick higher than a fourth in any deal.
Bernier showed a little fire tonight, good for us considering scouts/gms will have been watching.

the names that are out there as rentals/bait - ponikarovsky (gone), whitney, cogliano, boyes, wolski - are all players that i can't get excited about as all
i think gillis is the kind of guy to make a good hockey deal but he won't dump prospects/picks for trash
unless there are names being dangled out there that i'm unaware of i wouldn't be upset if gillis just stands pat
Kypreos on Schneider "the good thing about Schneider is that he's a good soldier, a lot of veterans in his situation wouldn't touch the minors.." i guess he forgot that Schneider abruptly left the canucks Dec 20th over playing time. Great soldier and teammate indeed.

Hey, I think it's nice of Sportsnet to employ "special needs" commentators. Kypreos had his head injury, and while I'm not familiar with the clinical term for whatever's wrong with MacLean, I'm sure it'd keep him from getting a job elsewhere.
CBJ has improved alot since MacLean left. They aren't as much of a mess as the record shows IMO. Lots of good young pieces, they will bounce back next year.
I am going to have to imagine that MacLean is an elaborate comedic genius, can't take anything he says seriously.
Hm, Elliot hasn't looked bad at all for the Senators; I dunno if they'd be much interested in Schneider. I guess maybe if they thought he'd be franchise.
That would be great, and this guy is a legit source!
Brian Elliotts presence makes that deal make little sense, does it not? You really think that the Sens would deal a shot blocking d-man for an unproven young goalie when they are embarking on a playoff run.
