Great deal, they had extra 3rd, and Purcell was useless.
Exactly how I see it. We gained a lot of experience and leadership for our young team. You can never have too many leaders and PK guys, IMO. As well as the faceoffs...that's huge.
Halpern was a very solid two-way forward with Washington. Born in Potomac Maryland, trained locally until going to college, he was a big deal around here and a definite fan favorite. Trade to Kings should rejuvenate him.
Who cares where the pick is? Remember when everyone *****ed about giving up a 2nd for Richardson. Doesn't look too bad now does it? We dumped a kid who had no future here and a 3rd round pick for a former captain and proven NHL player. Jesus, some of you are never happy.

I dont think this is a bad move. Dean probably will try and sign him for another year. Teddy Purcell had little value
This. A mid-late 60s/early 70s pick and a healthy scratch for a guy who's a little overpaid but will not hurt us in the playoffs and help us along the way, that's a good trade. If DL can get Halpern to sign an extension at a discount, even better. Halpern isn't worth 2 million/season, but he's a good third liner and we desperately needed to fill out the bottom end depth in our lineup.

Seriously. I question some people's intelligence level if they're pissed off about giving up one of the Kings' threethird round picks this year.
Some of the outrage displayed here because Teddy had potentiaaal is lolzy. He didn't fit in this team, and wasn't much help as a healthy scratch. Hope he fines a role with TB, and finds the courage needed to stick in the NHL.
Not too worried about the draft pick. The Kings have plenty of picks.
Purcell is basically a throw-in. Sort of like Lundmark in the Conroy trade a few years ago. Getting rid of Purcell opens up a spot on the Kings, and someone had to take Halpern's spot in Tampa.
For where the Kings are now, I'll take Halpern over two non-existent entities.
