3rd rounder was steep. But yeah, we got stacks of picks and can't sign everybody they draft. Good luck Purcell!
With the team's depth right now if we draft a forward in the first round I think he has a hard time making the cut. That third rounder could be looking at a 3-5 year stint in juniors or the minors between draft day and getting a chance. In other words, it's not a big loss. At some point you have to stop drafting in the mid rounds and get classy guys you can rely on in the NHL. I'm done talking about tomorrow, let's focus on now! To quote The Simpsons:
Just bringing in a vet leader who kills penalties and can win faceoffs is huge. Having that down the middle (Kopi-Zus-Stoll-Halpern) is huge for the playoffs. Purcell was doing nothing but warming the press box. We have other 3rds. At some point you have to stop piling up picks and do something with them. How many 3rds do we need at this point? We need to stop thinking of 3rd round picks as amazing players and worry about our NHL team.
If people are honestly that worried about the Kings trading what is equivalent to a "low 2nd round pick," you realize the Kings can trade up into that range if there's a player there they really want, right? You see it happen all the time at the Draft. The Kings could package their other two third round picks to a team to move up to the front of the third.
I really can't believe this is THAT big of a deal. It's a consistent healthy scratch and one of three friggin' THIRD round picks the team holds in this draft.
The response on the trade and rumors board has been overwhelmingly positive.

Being a Victor Hedman-fan I've watched a bunch of TB games this year. Halpern is great, every game. Purcell and 3rd is closer to underpayment than overpayment.
I'm probably in the minority but I think we overpaid.
We should of had Halpern for Purcell straight up at most. But to throw in a 3rd pick is overpayment. Couldn't we have at least dumped Jones' salary in the deal?
Regardless, Teddy was useless here with the kings unfortunately. I'm sure Halpern will be an asset and hopefully benefit from being around better talent/system.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Teddy lineup alongside Stamkos.
So Cliche or Moller back to Manchester? I'm assumg Cliche...So the 4th line when Williams comes back for the playoffs could be Clune, Halpern, Moller...Ivanans sits.
We did overpay, but not by as much as most around are claiming. Initial reactions to these deals are always everywhere. Halpern has more value than many give him credit for. The guy will be a big difference on our bottom 6. It is a good deal, and we are in the position to overpay. Not too much missed going away in this deal.

I dont think we overpaid. His value was close to Belanger's, and he got a 2nd. I'd say a 3rd and Tedward is about right.

Moller to Manchester because his development would be better suited there. Cliche is more of a bottom 9 player.
As far as overpayment goes, I don't think so because Purcell had little value and Dominic Moore went for a 2nd...
Do you guys want to have a better chance of winning this season or do you want to keep hoping Purcell will wake up and then hopefully draft a serviceable NHL player who wouldn't make an impact for another 3 years?
This is what happens when you are buyers. It's not an overpayment.
Also, Belanger was traded for a reason. Lombardi would nevewr bring him back.
