The only thing this does for the rangers is that they eliminate a contract at the end of the season. An NHL team only gets 50 contracts.
wiikman was a rfa that I'm certain wasn't going to be qualified anyways. all this does is provide a 7th dman, but he could have been picked up on waivers for free. Seems like glen was too busy reading Cigar Aficionado to check the waiver wire and had to throw in a pick last minute
The Rangers have acquired veteran defenseman Anders Eriksson, 35, from the Coyotes and will assign him to Hartford (AHL). The Rangers sent goalie Miika Wiikman and a seventh-round pick in the 2011 draft to Phoenix to get some blue-line depth for the playoff run. Eriksson actually fills that role of veteran seventh defenseman that Alexei Semenov was supposed to, until he rejected the Rangers’ contract offer and bolted for the KHL.
