SIAP: Ottawa Plays Olympic Highlights Over USA National Anthem
OTTAWA — Ryan Callahan was looking at the American flag, not at the scoreboard video screen, during the singing of the "Star Spangled Banner'' before last night's game.
Which is why the Team USA and Rangers winger had no idea that an individual in the Senators' game night operations decided to show video of every Canadian gold-medal winner, plus Sidney Crosby's golden goal against the Americans, as the U.S. national anthem was played.
The Canadian national anthem that followed was not accompanied by images from the Vancouver Games.
"I didn't have any idea,'' said Callahan, who scored twice in the Blueshirts' 4-1 victory over the Senators, including one off a brilliant dash down the left side at 0:22 of the second . "I don't look at the scoreboard during the anthem. I look at the flag."
It was pretty clearly a mistake. It was meant to go over the Canadian anthem (they always have a montage of great Canadian sports moments over the Canadian anthem).
I was there. The bigger story was the 13 year old who sang the anthems. She was incredible.
There was also a standing ovation for the American olympians on the Rangers.....Ottawa didnt have any American Olympians...and our fans cheered on the opposing teams players from the opposing country....but hey, positive news in the USA? Never.

What a bunch of cry babies. Maybe if the Yanks didn't make such a big deal about beating Canada in the round robin they wouldn't have enjoyed the gold medal victory so much.
And if Canada is so bad why do so many Americans that go overseas try to pass themselves off as Canadians with the Canada flag sewn onto their backpacks?

Canadians have so much class
Canes/Panthers-Carolina
Canadian trash...what a disgrace. This is yet another example of why Canadiens are viewed as a joke. what a classless nation.
anyone remember when they booed our Anthem in Montreal when the war began? I do...
Dangsta
Thats the type of class less garbage that bugs me about canada. Just remember every canadian was crapping their pants every time the us had a rush in OT. If the US had more shots in OT the Gold is ours.
Rangers-Hawks
Let them have their moment. Canada isn't winning the cup....and that's what counts.
RangerFanCentral
that's because Canada is an entire country full of white trash pieces of garbage

How much more bush league can you get? "True north strong and free"? Only because we're your next door neighbor. You'd all be speaking Russian if it weren't for the USA.
Even if it was just an innocent mistake, someone should be disciplined over it.
If anything, just for the PR aspect. It simply just doesn't look good.
To who? Who actually gets offended by **** like this? Just people who have a stick up their ass and decide to share their pessimism with anyone willing to read it.

What can I say?
People are stupid

It's a non story. Get over it.
Since I really don't give a damn, i'm not sure how I'm "over-reacting".
But if you used your reading comprehension skills, you would see that I said to the casual observer who refuses to look beyond, it doesn't come off all that well.
Go away with threads like this. It was so obviously meant to be played with the Canadian anthem that it actually hurts how stupid articles and complaints like this are.
I don't get why they even play anthems before sporting events
For domestic leagues, I don't think they should be played. It really is a North American thing to play anthems before the game. I've been to a few European soccer games, and at the club level, anthems have nothing to do with the game. Only matches involving national teams have the anthems before the game, and that's the way it should be.
Even for non-Olympics IIHF games, both anthems should be played before the game instead of just the winner's anthem at the end of each game. That's one thing FIFA does well.
lol. I was at the entrance of the section waiting to go up. The usher laughed. The crowd cheered a little, but it wasn't very loud. Mistake, whatever, moving on...
Poutine is probably the best food ever invented, along with beaver tails, IMO.
I love poutine (sometimes hard to find in the States but managed to get my hands on some this week) but I had no idea what beaver tails were so I just looked it up.
OH. MY. GOD.
I want some right now.
If these sort of foods were prevalent in America, the obesity rate would be much higher than it already is.
