Probably so that teams don't have under the table deals using the waiver system. Like if a team is out of it a week before the playoffs, they waive a goalie, the #8 seed claims him, then compensates the original team in the offseason.

Schneider should seriously just retire. He is done. Big attitude + declining skill + being 40 years old = bad combo

Once again --- if they are claimed then they will not be eligible for the playoffs, with the new team that picked them up.

So i doubt they get claimed.
thats why i dont think anybody gets claimed

previously, i kept thinking they weren't eligible for the rest of the regular season either

it'd be weird if someone picks up Schneider, he does great for them, and then when you get into the playoffs you gotta bring someone new into the fold

He will probably get 8-10 min a night to help our god awful PP. Chelios is 45 so Schneider is just a kid.

If either is claimed, the GM that claims him will face waiver-wire retribution down the line.

It just comes off as a lousy thing to do.

So if he gets claimed by someone else, the Nucks don't get the pick and the trade is void?

No, the trade will stand no matter what. If Schneider gets claimed the conditions of the 6th round pick will not have been met and the Canucks will get just Zimmerman instead of Zimmerman and a 6th.

Vancouver had Schneider in the minors, Phoenix is trying to recall him from the minors now that they've acquired him, but run the risk of losing him to another team, hence the conditional 6th round pick.

Definitely.

Especially since we are without our 2nd and 3rd rounders this year.

Doesn't make sense, pretty sure waivers are fair game. Any team waiving someone of impact enough to help a playoff contender would be claimed by lower teams, so there's little fear of "compensation in the offseason" as the team is more likely losing the player for nothing if he doesn't clear all the way to the intended team.

As for the Forsberg allusion, I believe it was because UFA signings aren't allowed after trade deadline, not because of the waivers. Which is more or less why it never happened, because a non-playoff or lower teams then the one that would've signed him would claim him most likely.

But what do I know. Someone get some links...

He wouldn't be eligible for the playoffs OR the regular season if claimed by another team

Because Schneider was in the AHL at the time of the trade, Phoenix recalls him, but before he can join the Coyotes, he must pass through waivers. Once he has cleared waivers, he is free to join the Coyotes.

If a team did claim him, he would not be eligible to play with that team when the playoffs roll around because essentially he would have been acquired by that team AFTER the NHL's Trade Deadline.

Hope that clears up the confusion.

Did he find the fountain of youth? Last I heard Chelios was 48. I guess playing with the kids in the AHL really did him some good.
