Why not set up a pole pending the return of a healthy Powe?

Which one should sit if all are healthy:

1. Powe
2. Hartnell
3. Asham
4. Leino

Hartnell will win the poll, but he won't sit

Honestly, I think Leino will have to impress Lavi to take Powe's spot. We all know Powe works perfectly for Lavi's system. Plus Powe is a robot sent back in time to save <s>John Conner</s> our playoff hopes and dreams.

Just accept it.

Rick
Scoring goals is impressive.

He has great hands, and though his skating will hurt him in space, he has the talent to make defensemen look foolish with his stick-work.

I would like to see both Powe and Leino in the top 9 with Asham as the 13th forward. I know people will get on edge about this, but Asham has had an incredible offensive display for a couple games that I doubt he will be able to repeat. I think Powe with Giroux and JVR would be best while trying Leino with Richards and Gagne.

Agreed on all points! Great post.

I'm down on Hartnell because he's well off of last years pace, and his stupidity is on the rise. Hell I'm down on Briere to, not enough point production for what he's being paid

Maybe we can reunite the Powe - Giroux - Briere line?

Gagne - Richards - Leino
JVR - Carter - Hartnell
Powe - Giroux - Briere
Carcillo - Betts - Lappy
Asham

I would actually be a fan of swapping Richie and Carter too.

Gagne - Carter - Leino
JVR - Richards - Hartnell (NASTY - reminds me of the old Hartnell - Richards - Downie line, but better)
same
same

Gags had a serious injury and seems to be slowly regaining his old form. I'm not as annoyed with him as with Hartnell and Briere to a lesser degree. Hartnell is just dumb for reasons mentioned a million times and Briere, for bulking up in the offseason really gets knocked off the puck easy (I know hes small, but still). He also doesnt seem to have the hands that he used to....not sure what the problem is there.

Hartnell should be a healthy scratch

To be honest, I thought Leino was pretty invisble aside from his goal (which was very pretty) and then one other shift late in the game. 2 shifts does not a game make IMO.

He was on the fourth line. Of the little chances he did get, he played well. It was one game though, not enough to put him permanently on a top line or anything. I think we are just saying, why not try him on different lines and see what happens?

Exactly. His offensive talent is wasted on that line. If anything, the fourth line is the last place we want Leino.

Also, he wasn't exactly invisible. He was working hard in front of the net and in the corners whenever he was on the ice.

Powe should be on the 4th line.

Powe-Betts-Lappy.

As far as the "problem" with having Leino Powe and Asham, I think its a pretty good problem to have. You know down the stretch we are going to lose someone to injury so its nice to have capable players to fill those roles.

Yes, Hartnell sucks this season. His blind passes that setup 3on2s three or four times a game is so annoying. I wish Knuble was on that line instead of him.

I never thought I would be saying this but Powe is light years ahead of Asham and Leino with regards to team importance.

I think tonights game will show whether Leino will be able to stick in the lineup. He had a decent game the other day, and with Powe still being out he has another chance to showcase himself.

As for lines, it is hard to say. I was about to say a shakeup on Carters line as it seems he hasn't been clicking with Hartnell and Briere, although looking at the game logs Briere does have 5 points in his last 4 and Hartnell 7 points in his last 6 games. So the line is doing well (for info sake, Carter has 8 points in his last 6, 7 being goals. He also has 15 goals in his last 20 games with 5 assists).

I would be a bit interested in seeing Leino in Carcillo's spot. Carcillo has done a good job on the line with Richards/Gagne but Leino might be able to provide a bit more of an offensive impact.

Or the 3rd line could be broken up, as while they haven't played bad, they also haven't really been scoring. Perhaps match up Gagne with Giroux at center (even though Giroux didn't seem to do much when he was a wing on Gagne's line).

Perhaps something like (if a line-up shake were to occur
Hartnell - Carter - Briere
Gagne - Giroux - Powe/Asham
JVR - Richards - Leino
Carcillo - Betts - Lappy

Or they can just keep it the way it is as it was just one loss.

The only person that Leino should replace in the lineup is Hartnell.

Powe brings much more to the team and has done nothing to lose his spot in the lineup. Asham is a good solid veteran presence on the line with Giroux and VanRiemsdyk which they need.

Sigh. Really miss Knuble, watching him score twice last night against the Lightning made me wish that Homer hadn't bundled the cap up so badly.

As far as Leino goes, I don't think we can sit Powe or Asham for him... both have proven that have sound roles and are certainly more than capable 3rd/4th liners. Honestly, I would continue to sit Leino... the lines (barring that Florida disaster which I missed) have played well and there's no reason for a shake up.

i think it would be interesting to see leino - giroux - jvr. all of them have good hands... leino will be good for posting up in front of the net, jvr can set up high in the slot around the hash marks, and giroux will still be the set up guy. It would be nice to see a line like this build some chemistry.

Powe - Betts - Lappy
Asham =healthy scratch

The very least he should get is like 10 games to show what he can do.

Once that period of time has gone we're at around game #70 and soon after that the lines should be pretty much set and ready for the playoffs. (Yes, I count this team to reach the post-season games).

Leino really needs to go to some power skating camp or just learn how to skate in the off season

I like the idea of trying JVR on the off wing and they actually tried it last game when they put him Carter and Hartnell. It's definitely worth trying out with Giroux at center. Nice line proposal
