This reminds me of the Jannsen-Belak scrap a few years ago. Jannsen hammered Kaberle and the first game after the hit he stood in there with Belak and took some heavy punches. He ended any of the retaliatory stuff coming to him or his teammates.

Richards did the same kind of thing, even though he probably could have dummied Booth.
This.

I really have to question the hockey knowledge of anyone complaining about this. This wasn't about putting on a toe to toe bout, or wrecking the other guy. I'll take this over half the heavyweight fights any day, and I'm a huge hockey fights fan.

Yeah, this was more of a "let's get this out of the way".

Richards obliged and even had a laugh on the way to the box.

I highly doubt Richards really "tried". Booth isn't much of a fighter, but still a cool tussle either way.

Sorry, need clarification here...anyone complaining about how bad the fight was in the most technical sense?...because that's not even debatable, there was only 1/2 a punch landed...and I think that's all I've seen people complain about in this thread (too lazy to go back and check). In principal I like fights that stem from things like this than staged fights, but if noone is landing punches it's still a bad fight.

I do get the point you are making and I feel the same way, I just thought the first sentence was questionable.

Kind of pointless to square up like that and not ditch the helmets.

well, I love what booth did there. he went there and put that incident finally out of the way. richards' smile going back to the box explains exactly why he needs to get destroyed asap.

richards hit was clean, helmets stayed on, but Booth embarrassed Richards and all philly fans were embarrassed and "owned" that game

Richards was smiling at the Flyers in the box. Obviously we can't know why, but likely it was more along the lines of "yeah...yeah...I knew that was coming".

Let's not make it into something it was not. It didn't even seem as if Richards wanted to fight, but he understood Booth deserved to challenge him.

He embarrassed him? Maybe he embarrassed the Flyers with his overall play and his 4 point game, but he hardly embarrassed him in the fight. The fight was a crappy draw that no one would even mention if two other players were involved.

And that's coming from someone who hates the Flyers.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that hit. Maybe Booth should pay attention to the action on the Ice, instead of admiring a pass. It was nothing wrost then what Scott Stevens use to do.

If I'd had a serious concussion I wouldn't be in a rush to ditch my helmet.

Might want to revise your statement after you watch the video to see both players wearing Visors.

As for posters still saying it was a dirty hit, read the rule book. In the OHL for example if would be a penalty for hitting the head, but NHL rule book says that nowhere.

IN the NHL there is nothing wrong with incidental contact to the head. And if you try to argue that Richards tried to hit him in the head then you obviously dont know who richards is as a player.

Head down, solid check. I hope Booth learned his lesson, keep your head up.
