Victor Hedman

When the season started I thought that Hedman was our best defenseman out on the ice. Coaches and Gm's from other teams were saying how much potential he had. Lately I feel like his play has declined greatly and looking at Doughty and Stammer from last year, they both progressed as the year went on. Do you think Hedman needs more time to adjust to NA or what?

btw this is not a Hedman bashing thread/ me saying he is a complete bust

Too much weight on his young shoulders already. Everyone expects him to carry our defense in just his first year. You could also notice that he's not accustomed to the stuffed NHL schedule plus he's getting a lot of time on the ice per game, don't think that's doing him good at this point of the season. But we don't have any D-men left to step in for him...

The North American game and NHL schedule is probably taking it's toll.

He's in a new country on a new ice surface and playing in the NHL at age 18. His season should be a roller coaster.

If they helped then we know that it was fatigue of such a packed schedule, as SEL plays about half the games IIRC?? Plus with it all being compacted due to Olympics cant be easy to step in any play around 20 minutes a night.

That being said if he does this again for the next few seasons be worried, but as Torts said D can be the hardest position and normally until dmen have about 300 games under their belt they arent as effective. He is 18/19 after all (weird thinking he is the same age as me)

Hedman is not getting the coaching he should to develop ... with the exception of Mike Lundin ... all of the defense in Tampa has regressed.
