Which was nice, but the score was not indicative of how the game was played

Hopefully Leino makes the best of this.

Fights that start because of bad history or raw emotions (see Brashear vs Domi or Lindros vs Barnaby/Boughner) is another matter...
The only other way I can break it down for you is that players get an adrenaline from the first puck drop. If there are a lot of whistles in the beginning of a game, from whatever reason, that adrenaline is lost.

I respect your opinion, but I completely disagree with you and I believe that in this instance, the fights at the beginning of the game absolutely had an impact on the Flyers' play in the first period. For this game, the Flyers game plan should have been to come out hard and dominate play early. But they didn't and I really feel, for the reasons stated prior, that these fights had a factor in that.

Fair enough with the Tampa game.

Excited about the Hartnell and Leino switch. Guessing Hartnell goes to the third line and Asham gets bumped to the fourth? Or maybe Hartnell goes to the first and Carcillo goes to the fourth again? Either way it's a good move, Hartnell just makes almost every play he's involved in die. Leino played well last game, showed some hands, and showed a willingness to park in front of the other goalie.

Lol there are basically all but one team in the East, and one team in the West that have a shot at the playoffs.

That what happens when teams get rewarded for losing. What was it two years ago, only six teams out of thirty had more regulation losses than wins?

That's crazy, though I am not totally opposed to the loser point.

I kind of want to look at past post lockout years and see how many teams were in the playoff race around this point in the season.

Nice defense boys. Now what is it with these guys? Can't play defense in the beginning of games...

Started out kind of iffy, we seem to be getting better as we go though. Carcillo almost created a two-on-one.

It's particularly bad this year...but the 3 point games have done their job of keeping the gap tight between playoff and non-playoff teams.

I like the JVR-Giroux-Hartnell line.... looks like Leighton is back on his game too.

I'd like to see an expanded OT which would hopefully reduce the amount of shootouts but as long as shootouts are part of the landscape I wouldn't be opposed to eliminating points for OT losses (not SO losses, just awarding a point in OT). I am not sure how that would change the flow of the game or how coaches would try to manipulate strategy.
