Savard taken off the ice on stretcher after being hit by Cooke, very similar to Richards on Booth.

Similar? Maybe.

Booth and Richards where both moving fairly fast on that hit and it is believable that Richards mistimed the hit.

Savard released a shot and was basically standing still, so kinda hard to believe that Cooke missed.

Hence, Lukas Krajicek will remain in the lineup.

“It’s important to get Ryan [Parent] back in there and get him back into shape,” Laviolette said. “I thought he’s gotten better every game.”

Even though Ville Leino played well substituting for Darroll Powe (bruised foot) the past two games, Powe was also cleared to play and went back into the lineup against the Maple Leafs.

The reason? Laviolette expects some rough play from the Maple Leafs, and he wants more vim ‘n vigor on the ice.

Leino had played on Jeff Carter’s line with Danny Briere during Friday’s 3-2 overtime loss in Buffalo and generated scoring chances.

“It was important to have a lineup that has enough sand paper in there tonight,” Laviolette explained. “Ville did a good job, jumping up on the second line with Carter and Briere. It was good.

“It’s going to be a competitive game, a lot of one-on-one battles for the puck. Physical, hard-hitting. I want to make sure we’re ready to play [that kind of ] game.”

Here's the Savard play:

http://www.boston.com/sports/hockey/..._delivers.html

Quote:
Marc Savard has been diagnosed with a concussion as a result of an elbow by Matt Cooke at 14:23 of the third period. According to Claude Julien, Savard was knocked unconscious momentarily. Savard will remain in Pittsburgh overnight while his teammates travel to Toronto.

Julien said he expects Savard to be out "for a while." Julien termed it a classic blind-side hit.

The seem to be a more violent jarring of the head in this incident based upon an initial viewing.

Nick Kypreos is ripping Matt Cooke and defending Richards right now on Sportsnet.

It is true that the leafs game will be physical. I guess I understand taking Leino back out.

More or less the same. Blindside hit to the head after the player released the puck. No elbow, and technically a legal hit. The player getting hit was bent down and was injured because he was in a vulnerable position, while the player delivering the hit could have avoided it but chose not to at the last second. These hits are right smack on the borderline between being an unfortunate accident or a dirty play with intent to injure.

I say let the rule book decide. Dont like these hits? Change the rule book.

Hits were very similar, Savard's looks worse because he is smaller than Booth, and was bent over more

I feel like Richards was coming in from the side and attempting to lay a check. It looked like Cooke was simply going for Savard's exposed head IMO.

I hate Sportsnet. TSN's broadcasts are SO much better.
