I, for one, am very pleased that Holmgren is moving forward on locking up Leighton for this team's future, as long as the salary is appropriate. Quick, what's 1/12th of a dime?

Even as a backup goalie I don't want him signed, but that's not really the issue here anyway. The issue here is more that we're signing Leighton while Boucher is already signed which means that they either plan to have Leighton be our starter next year or plan on waiving Boosh.

Can we just give Bosh his money, and tell him to pack his bags?

He doesn't have to be. Right now, we can't do much so i don't see why not. As long as he's not our starter, this is a good move. Wouldn't give him two years though, that's crazy talk.

I can see it now.

Liut: So lets discuss the Leighton extension

Holmgren: Ok, what do you have in mind?

Liut: 3 years, 4.5 million with a full NTC and NMC

Holmgren: DEAL!

So you want Leighton as the starter next year without at least exploring better options ??? If so, , it's JXC / Jones all over again

Don't matter , you do not panic and extend a backup 3 months early when one is already signed for next year. The only way any extension talks have started is that Holmer wants him as the starter

The comment behind my post is that, if Homer did extend Leighton, and is thinking about using him as a starter, some people on this board might kill themselves.

That being said, I dont see it happening. I only think he's doing it as a backup job. Especially if we lose first round in playoffs, and Leighton sucks during that period of time.

I hope you are right, but in what scenario does that even make an ounce of sense to be doing this early ???

Leighton may have to have an "accident" in that situation.

I think I'm the only other person that understood that from the article. I'm sure they'll "talk," and an extension will probably be a topic, but I'm not expecting to see it until the end of the season, if it even happens. I know we can always anticipate idiotic moves from Homer, but I'm not ready to go jumping off the building just yet. And I'm fine with Boosh, but if they get rid of him first and then extend Leighton, I have no qualms.

If the day does come when Homer anounces an extension, and Leighton as our starter, I will then proceed to shoot a missile at his house.

I haven't read the whole thread yet, but Seravalli's article today mentioned his agent is in town, but they aren't in negotiations.

Quote:
Leighton's agent, Mike Liut, was in town this week, possibly to discuss a contract extension.

With Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren out of town through Wednesday, a league source told the Daily News that no formal discussion had taken place.

When asked, Holmgren said yesterday there was "no point in even talking about it right now."
Quote:
Leighton, 28, said there was nothing currently brewing in contract talks but followed that up with "I wish."
