I may die of shock the day the Flyers ever get a legit #1 goaltender.

Goddamnit, I mean, if he can sustain a current role plus a role as a back up in the future, that's fine. We just need a ****ING REAL STARTER!

im okay with an extension a two year two way deal or something like that. dangle the chance to start (and persue other options hard) but be able to bump him down where he belongs.

I can't imagine them ever making the position a top priority, but at some point I'd think they will just stumble one out of sheer luck in the draft.

See I personally dont like that arguement. There have been goalies that have been good that were in lower leagues. Of course anyone wants to see their top goalie prospect in the top league and destroying, but I dont think its right to downplay what he has done so far just because he is in the second league (which has good teams also)

43 year-old Ed Belfour absolutely dominated that league...

No one is downplaying what he has done. What he has done is incredibly impressive, but it would be foolish to act like he's a stud prospect before he has taken it to the next level. I am remaining cautiously optimistic over him.

I don't think he made any concrete conclusions against Erikkson's potential. He was just saying to put it in perspective.

He is way bigger than I thought he was. I thought he was in the mold of an Enroth or Thomas, short quick guys. He looks pretty damn tall here.

The one fact he knows about the league ...

Eriksson plays as a 19 year old against grown men who earn their money by playing hockey .... he isn't a goalie who plays in some junior league or development league ... his coach trusts him that much that he will start during the most important part of the season.

Not sure where you are going here.

The point of my comment is that Eriksson still has a long ways to go before he is ready and right now, although he's dominating, he's not playing in a very difficult league.

I mean, you point out that he's playing against grown men, plenty of 23 and 24 year-olds playing in NCAAs....

I hope he comes back next year, just please keep the contract reasonable.

To all of the people demanding a "real" goaltender - who is on your wish list for next year?

Eriksson is no where near ready for North American hockey. He's still another 3-4 seasons away from seeing the NHL.

Eriksson is certainly very talented. When he is on, he can win games on his own. Still a bit inconsistent tho. After Markström he is the best goalie prospect we have here in Sweden. Not playing in the SEL is not a legit knock on him. He was stuck behind Markström in Brynäs, he had to change teams before the start of this season for the good of his career. There are 12 teams in the highest league in Sweden, if you end up in the bottom 2 you get demoted to the second league. Not many teams are willing to take a chance on a 19 year old goalie when the stakes are that high. However, SEL teams have already stated their interest for next year given his fine season with Leksand so far.
