He still generally lacks the skill to be a long-term solution on a scoring line, but Laviolette has found a way to put him in a position to contribute with Mike Richards, whereas John Stevens could not (less 70-foot outlet passes have a lot to do with it).
Exactly. Undisciplined Carcillo is a negative to the team, Disciplined Carcillo is a positive

Mine too man! My buddy has a huge gash on his leg from jumping around so much. He hit his leg on the arm rest while we were bear hugging, no homo. That place was rockin' for sure!

Also, for whatever reason, the Flyers Photo Gallery randomly has pictures of the Duke-Miami game dispersed throughout the slideshow.
Wow, you're right. They must have gotten them directly from Getty and embedded them without double-checking which ones they got!

finally saw some highlights. great game. Anyone think that since Chicago was Leighton's former team he was a bit motivated?

Pronger goal was awesome, Carle hitting Kane was awesome, Timonen slappass and Hartnell goal were sick. JVR had some SICK dangles on the 4 on 4, Leighton made some good saves

I dont think Leighton played any differently than he usually does...just got some bounces and a few key missed opportunities by Chicago (liek the Versteeg backhand off the crossbar). It seemed Hartnell either had really bad shifts or really good ones, jut glad it was more the latter.
One thing I noticed at the game (I have been noticing it for a while, actually) was that JVR takes reallllly short shifts. I wonder if he is being told to keep them that way, if it is a wy to stay fresh because of his unfamiliarity with the NHL schedule, or he just doesnt want to be in the doghouse for overstaying. Probably a little of all three, I woudl imagine, but sometimes he bails out of the offensive zone before the puck is even in possession by the opponents. Not that it is a such a bad thing, but I was wondering if anyone else noticed that?

I know that. JVR seems to take relatively shorter shifts, and has a tendency to bail out of the offensive zone a little early, IMO. As i said, though, it isn't really a problem, just an observation which I wonder about. I think it is to stay fresh for the season and a little bit of a rookie not wanting to get into the dog house for overstaying his shifts.

Ladd: "Drop'em, boy! I'll knock that silly mustache right off your face!"
Carcillo: "I'm sorry...I...I...coach said I can't! (sobs)"

Carle: "I love whoever invented the 'offensive defenseman' concept."
Campbell: "Me too. We totally get overpaid for this."

Yeah I'm sure Lavi has him on more of a leash than other players

JVR is 7th among forwards in Average time per shift at 44 seconds.
The entire team's range is only 50 secs - 41 secs.

Not sure when the instances you noticed occurred, but depending on which side the benches are on, sometimes the far winger will peel off early from a shift so as not to get caught out, esp. during the second period...
