Isles did not even have Pierre Turgeon. Game seven Pilon hit Stevens and he was out before he hit the ice. Kasparaitis was hitting Lemieux every chance he could.

Pittsburgh was down 3-1 late in game seven before tying it in the final minute.

"Radar" was key. He devised a game plan that kept the puck along the boards and forced the Pens to muck and grind (their weakness). If I remember right the Isles were the only team to beat the Pens 3 times that year. So Arbour pretty much knew what to do from the start.

Another thing is that Turgeon being out for the series was almost a blessing for the Islanders. It allowed "Penguin Killer" Ray Ferrarro more playing time.

actually i think the discrepancy was so big cause the pens were 3:1 ahead in the series. so its not really surprsising. the votes were much closer at the beginning. and they are closer now again.

The best two teams I've ever seen was the late seventies Habs and mid-eighties Oilers.

After the series I felt that Arbour was the real mvp. No one was giving the Isles a chance before the series but he got the team to believe they could win.

Some of the Oilers fans are a bit arrogant here. The pens had Lemieux, Francis, Barrasso (in his prime), Stevens, Mullen, Jagr, etc. To make it sound like there was no way the pens could ever beat the might Oilers is a joke.

Actually I think an apt comparison could be made between the '86 Oilers and '93 Pens. Amazing, record-breaking teams, but why they fell short in the playoffs I'll never know.

We have ample reason to be. The NHL took out 4 on 4 for gods sake just because the Oilers would score 3 or 4 times on it. It was called the "Oilers rule". Just think they changed the game to facilitate other teams so they can actually compete on the same ice. Imagine if they didnt change that rule in the mid eighties. id say 500 goals wasnt out of realm for Gretzky and co. Im not saying Penguins cant compete .. obviously they can. they were a great team. We know.They had some phenomenol players. But tocchey stevens francis these guys couldnt skate worth shyt. Anderson? Messier? Coffey? Tikkanen? these guys could fly.Speed kills.
