Blues Moves and Rumours

(AP) St. Louis: The St. Louis Blues today announced the addition of agitator Sean Avery to the squad. He was acquired from the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for young and rugged forward / defenceman Paul Bissonnette and a 4th round draft pick.

Given his potential contract demands, it is anticipated it will be a short stay for Avery with the Blues, but in the short-term, he certainly increases the Blues already overflowing machismo quotient substantially. He joins a forward crew that already includes Jarkko Ruutu, Dustin Byfuglien, Guillaume Latendresse and Jared Boll amongst others, while the Blues defensive unit remains the largest and most physical in the league.

The feisty left winter was seen on the left side of a line with Jeff Carter and Daniel Alfredsson in his first morning practice.

With the acquisition of Avery, the Blues also announced that Viktor Tikhonov was sent back to Peoria of the AHL. Tikhonov’s agent would not return calls, but it is believed the young Russian forward was considering his options, including returning to Russia to finish the season in the KHL.

Meanwhile, rumours remain rampant the Blues are on the verge of at least one other deal for a solid defencemen, although the team with whom this will occur, remains a guess. There are unconfirmed reports the Blues are speaking to no less than six teams about acquiring another blueliner, while some rumours have also circulated they are making a more substantial move for another scoring line forward as well.

What has become clear is that the Blues have been offering picks, solid prospects and money to several teams as they desperately attempt to re-establish themselves as the team to beat in the Western conference. The Blues currently lead the Central division, but it is hardly a bonafide lead given both the Red Wings and Blue Jackets hold several games in hand and are only a few points back of the Blues. The young Predators squad are also lurking ever-dangerous, just back of all three teams in what is unquestionably the toughest division in the HFNHL.

short stint for avery outside the central division...

What we've got here is failure to communicate.
Some men you just can't reach...
So, you get what we had here last week,
which is the way he wants it!
Well, he gets it!
