The Jordan Schroeder Thread

Quote:
Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks President and General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the Canucks have signed their 2009 first round draft selection, centre Jordan Schroeder. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Likely an ELC. Welcome to the pros, Jordan!

Meh. He's been pretty underwhelming this year from what i've heard. Not that I think he's a bust or anything.

This was inevitable anyway.

Glad he'll get to develop with the Moose rather than another year at Minnesota. Seems like the Gophers have been struggling to produce a dominant force of a team like they did in previous years.

The whole U of M program was underwhelming, I'm excited to see what Schroeder can do with some professionals of a decent talent level. Not that the Moose have a glut of natural offensive talent at the moment, but nonetheless.

He didn't have anyone to pass the puck to on that team these year. Ryan Stoa was a big part of their offensive numbers last year. I saw one game on TV, and Schroeder was making nice moves in front of the net but he pretty much had to do it all alone.

He can make back what he would have saved on that scholarship in the first year of his pro deal, so yes I agree.

Very interested to see what he can do in the AHL this season. Interesting season for Jordan to say the least. Probably not what anyone was expecting after he was drafted but here we are. Hopefully he can have a solid impact and end his season on a positive note.

...and the award for most optimistic poster goes to...

I'm a big Schroeder fan, I think he'll be huge in this league. I'm thinking he'll be a consistent 70 point player with clutch tendencies. Welcome to the Pros kid.

He's the first 1st round pick of ours to turn pro in how long? Four years?

So I guess the only question left is whether Hodgson and Schroeder's busts in the HHOF will be beside each other or not.

Has anyone determined without a doubt that Schroeder is not obligated to join the Silvertips for the remainder of their season?

I've been very excited about this move, mainly because we will get a greater chance to watch him play.

Does anyone know when he is joining the team? They have a game this Friday, so i would assume that would be his first game. If not, i would hope Sunday. He could get in a good 12 regular season games.

If Canucks tv wanted to make money they would PPV a couple Moose games down the stretch here (starting with those games in Abbotsford which is pretty easy for them to get a crew out there). They would make a killing off us.

Yes. The rule only applies to players that already signed in CHL, not ones that are coming out of college to AHL and were simply drafted. The CHL team might have their rights for that league but doesn't mean they own their soul.

That's great news. Kind of expected but the alternative always looms as a possibility until a prospect signs.

Well, I think we're seeing some of the pitfalls of drafting a College player. That last year of College hockey he played was not good for his development. A frsh start with the Moose is just what the doctor ordered to get him back on track.

Hopefully he can have a Kyle Okposo-like rejuvenation after leaving the U of Minn. With Samuelsson's injury status up in the air and Grabner back with the Canucks Schroeder should see plenty of ice-time in a scoring role with the Moose down the stretch.

This. But I believe he could go there if he, the Canucks and the Silvertips all agreed to it, yes?

Thanks. My concern was not so much over ownership of his soul as it was over a potential agreement between the CHL and NHL/AHL (similar to players drafted out of the CHL under 20 years of age).

Trade him. He Suxors!

In all seriousness, it's good that he signed and hopefully he plays well with the Moose.
