I firmly believe that, in the end, Jordan Schroeder will have more points in a Vancouver Canucks uniform than Cody Hodgson.

Quote it, sig it, whatever you like. I just think he has more top-end, NHL-translatable skill.

I think this is letting the player off the hook, as if his environment passively forced a bad year on him. He was supposed to be the leader and best player on Minnesota, and they crapped the bed this year. What about the WJs, where he was good, but not great? Whose fault was that?

There are some character issues surrounding Jordan (hence why he slipped to us in the first place) and it really is up to him to get his act together and prove that he can be a good pro.

Hurray! Excited for him. He likely wont have a huge role down the stretch for the Moose but good to get him in some games young.

NCAA and CHL are bitter enemy's. There is no agreement that players have to go there, that is up to the team if they want to assign him, but one would suspect Jordan wants the money, therefor will be in Winnipeg.

Pffft, what does he know. I sold him a BBQ last weekend. Made it pretty clear that he would be centering the first line here next year.

As a huge Gopher fan...good luck to Jordan. 2 years at the U without an NCAA appearance kind of sucks though. Here is about what I saw in two years:

Hell of a talent, GREAT passer. Had trouble finishing. Terrible in the defensive zone.

Mabye the higher level will entice greater ability, he has the talent no doubt. Just didn't see the work ethic this year. GOOD LUCK and thanks for wearing the M!

hopefully he develops the defensive aspect of his game. based on the limited times I have seen him play (World Jr.) seems like a great skater and decent hands.

Probably an ATO with a ELC kicking in next year if the Canucks are smart. No need to burn a year off his RFA eligibility if you don't have to.

Flyers did this with JVR last year

Went to Heat-Moose a few months ago. Sold out stadium. Fun times.

If Codi makes the team by then it'll be insane.

I dunno about that.

I think there's something detrimental about being the big fish in a small pond for too long. Schroeder strikes me as the kind of player that needs to be pushed. Some players take it upon themselves to put pressure on themselves, while others develop based on their surroundings. Schroeder going to the Moose will do wonders for his development. I'm not saying he's guaranteed a shot at success. I just think he was biding his time in Minnesota. I don't see him as a leader, at least at this juncture in his career. I agree that it looks like he has a chip on his shoulder. He needs to be around people who will humble him.

Going to the Moose will do that for him.

The Moose games are the only ones that have sold out. Their average attendance is around 3500 in a 7000 seat arena.

He could but I am not sure if he would actually be able to play under WHL rules being signed this late in the season.

I am so happy he is away from that school program. I expect it may take the Moose a bit to fix a few of the bugs he may be infected with. It will be good to see him playing shortly. The Moose don't play until friday and then on sunday. I hope he is there for those games.

According to this report it was a standard three year ELC:

I looked up how they travel in the AHL and found this article on the Moose:

Quote:
Beginning this year, the Moose are the only team in the AHL that charters to all its American road games, just another step in the evolution of a minor league club that prides itself in behaving more like one in the NHL -- in hopes that someday soon it might become just that.

It is great they are doing this and should give Jordan a taste of the good life for motivation, besides $63USD can add up in a hurry.

Why is everyone assuming that Hodgson will automatically go to the Moose after the OHL season?

His comments indicate that he has not yet decided if he will report.

I thought the same thing. I assumed this year after his junior season he would be done playing competitive hockey until the fall.

Please, no windsprints.

Apparently there will be a press conference here tomorrow where Schroeder will be formally introduced as the latest signing:
Quote:
The Moose could be getting a body back though, since the Canucks have signed 2009 first rounder Jordan Schroeder to an entry-level contract on Wednesday.

Schroeder, who helped the United States win a gold medal at the 2010 World Junior Hockey Championship in Saskatoon, had nine goals and 28 points in 37 games with the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers of the NCAA this season.

The swift-skating centre had 13 goals and 45 points as a freshman.

Schroeder is expected to be assigned to the Moose but will be in Vancouver for a press conference Thursday, so it is not yet known if he’ll be available for this weekend’s games against the Grand Rapids Griffins.

I would like to see Hodgson rest all summer, instead of heading to Winnipeg.

The Moose are trying to win, so that is unlikely. No physical presence on that line, all under 6'0 and two pretty average skaters in Shirokov and Hodgson.

I'm thinking Schroeder will play with Pettinger and Stastny/Desbiens. Good mix of skill and grit. He could fit with Olvecky and Rosa, but Matt Pope is playing very well with those two right now and he has done sweet F-all this season until that line came together. Shirokov is on the 4th line right now. He is floating quite badly. Wonder if he's heading back to Russia.
