Tortorella wants to be Rangers dictator

Can we please see Larry Brooks VS John Tortorella in a cage match?

Quote:
On Wednesday, Tortorella - the mayor, sheriff, beat cop, judge, jury, executioner and the justice of the peace all tightly wrapped into one - was asked about Drury's opinion.

The coach, who has no trouble saying, "None of your business," when asked about team matters, decided to make it what he thought of his captain's comments, everybody's business. The coach decided to correct the captain.

"No I don't," Tortorella said Wednesday when asked whether he agreed with his captain. "I think that's the wrong word to use by Dru and we've ironed that out in the locker room."
Quote:
This totalitarian regime running the Rangers doesn't want a strong personality emerging from the room. This regime wants to do the thinking for the players. It wants to do the talking for the players.

The Rangers are 70 games into the season with Game 71 coming up tonight at the Garden against the Blues. They have no identity. Check that. Their identity is wrapped up in Tortorella.

Their identity is Tortorella.

Tortorella doesn't merely want to coach the Rangers. He wants to be the Rangers.

The Rangers have won 31 of 70 games.

How's he doing?

Another wasted season in the history of the Rangers.

Yes Larry, because the record indicates that Torts' personality isn't working.

It has nothing to do with talent or skill or depth...

Can Brooks please find a new subject for his one track mind to focus on? Maybe something that's vaguely interesting, this time?

this is getting ugly.

larry is really trying to get torts to snap writing this stuff

its clear that larry has a vendetta against torts and its getting to be very personal.

larry wont rest until torts is shown the door.

larry loses credability when he crosses the line with his articles. to me, it appears hes being vindictive and hammering home his agenda in every new piece he writes.

I agree with Brooks completely. Tortorella is too harsh and strong minded. What we need is a more easy going and quiet coach. That will get the Rangers to win. I bet a guy like Tom Renney would do th... oh wait, never mind. That failed too.

You have one coach who is quiet, inexperienced, and as defensive minded as they come. Then you switch him for a coach who is loud, experienced, and very offensive minded. Both have had little success. When you have two coaches who are polar opposites arriving at virtually identical results, then it's obvious that the problem isn't behind the bench.

Brooks has officially gone from Ranger's beat writer, to Tortorella beat writer.

9 out of 10 of his articles these days is taking another stupid shot at Tortorella for some stupid reason or another.

Our center depth is Prospal, a pretty good player on his way out of his career, Drury, a good player but one who has absolutely no offensive talent left in him, Avery, good player with consistency issues (like the entire team) who doesn't have enough offensive talent to ever crack 40 points, and Christensen, a waiver pick-up who shows some promise, but remember he's 26 and will probably never be more than a 3rd liner.

As sad a story as our C depth is, our LW depth proves even worse.
I think Brooks needs to take a look at the roster and stop attacking Tortorella like he's driving the Washington Capitals into last place.

This is the New York Rangers. They're a mediocre team, in a mediocre spot in the standings. It's not much of a shocker.

Go back to the Bus Stop, Brooks.

based on what exactly? a pretty slanted piece written by a guy who hates Torts' guts?

I dont buy that one bit. I havent seen a team thats given up on the head coach, Ive seen a team that plays very stupid hockey. Not necessarily the system, more the execution.

Panfork: C depth includes Jokinen, Anisimov, Boyle and Dubinsky. And Avery plays wing.

Brooks just keeps getting worse and worse.

Thankfully baseball is starting up, hopefully he'll focus in on that so we don't need to hear him cry more about Torts because he put him in his place more then once like he needs.

I kind of disagree, although I'm not going to say he's doing a wonderful job. All of the young player are having pretty good seasons and imo have responded well to him. Dubinsky, Callahan, Avery, Christensen, Del Zotto, Staal, etc... are all playing as good or better than they have played in previous seasons (with the exception of Del Zotto because he's a rookie). I don't think these players would have fared any better under another coach. The problem is depth and veterans not playing up to expectations and/or are over the hill (Redden, Drury and Rozsival making up the big three that are holding us back). You can blame Tortorella for not lighting a fire under the butts of these guys, but you also have to take into consideration that they're all over 30 and on the decline.

Despite his recent struggles, Gaborik is due on pace to have his best season in the NHL. It's not Tortorella's fault that he got injured in practice.

Tortorella says some stupid ****, but I don't think that in itself has affected the team much.

Listen whether you like the press as a coach you have to be professional. it's part of your job. You cant be a jackass to them.

Torts is the only conduit to the outside world to the media and Ranger fans and he acts totally unprofessionally concerning the beat reporters.

The NY Press traditionally will run you out of town and Brooks is leading that witch hunt, just hoping that torts continues to fail, so he can pile on. Torts has made their life insufferable.

For a coach who criticizes players (Avery, Dubinsky) about acting like a pro he sure doesn't act like one in a lot of areas.

The media guys cant wait for the season to end because Torts has sucked all the life out of covering the Rangers.

They have been thrown out of countless media sessions because someone asked "the wrong question" and its not always Brooks that asks the question that torts doesn't like.

These guys have to write something about the rangers almost every day and when you have a Owner, GM and coach that are totally inaccessible it makes your job a nightmare and Brooksie right or wrong is lashing out.

Torts brought this on himself now he has to own it.

You think Torts gives much a **** about what Larry Brooks writes about him?

I think its pretty clear from his actions towards the press that he really doesn't have much respect for them.

Awesome post Mouth. While I don't wanna see the guy fired (I want Slats gone) I have not cared for the disrespect he gives these guys covering the team. I am proud of Brooks for sticking up to that guy, he has the most balls out of all the guys who ask him questions, Stan too who I never cared for till this season. This kind of stuff might fly in Tampa but shouldn't here in New York.
