After I tore my MCL, I tried coming back too early. When I saw video of my skating, I realized I was skating a lot like Heatley. So, I took my doctor's advice and waited another 6 weeks.

Back on topic, he's a lot more hilarious than I expected. Excellent delivery.

Yea, that's pretty much what I was referring to. I couldn't believe how quick he got away from the defenders.

Also, he's not all that physical for his size, but he does throw a big hit every 10-15 games or so, usually by accident

the one thing he does that bugs the hell out of me is he will occasionaly make some of the worse pass attempts i've ever seen. I remember his pass got intercepted for a break away goal in overtime a couple months ago and once in a while he will just do horrible drop passes and usually at the worst time. From what i've observed if Danny Heatley didnt have his shot he would be a 3rd line grinder, at best a Holmstrom like player, but luckily he has a top 3 shot in the world imo,the best not counting Russians

I don't consider Marleau a sniper, he's more of a speedy playmaker (although not as much as Thornton). Kinda like Patrick Kane.

Hmm. Marleau hits *tiny* holes for a lot of his goals. What attribute does Heater have that makes him a sniper and not Marleau?

Heatley is not really a sniper. He doesn't pick corners - he just blasts it as hard as he can (admitted himself). Semin, Kessel, Kovalchuk are 'bigger' snipers than him.

I agree with this...Heatley is more like Ovechkin in his shooting. Just shoot it as hard as you can as often as you can. Ovechkin gets more goals simply because he's a much better skater.

Styles of play. Patty has never come across to me as a "shoot-first" player. He's just terrific at capitalizing on his opportunities.

Opposite for Heatley, every time he gets the puck he fires it at the net. That sounds like a Sniper to me, even if he's not picking corners all the time.

Two different definitions of "Sniper" I suppose

Maybe Heatley is the sniper that has taken out Jason Demers on occasion?

I've been super impressed with Heatley on the Sharks. Honestly, he has a rocket of a shot, but I don't think think he's a great skater or passer. But he has that 'sixth sense' that only elite level goal scorers have. He somehow lurks around the net and the puck winds up on his stick more often than not and he usually finishes. Great talent.
