So what is the season record for PIM in Manitoba?

As well as pugnacity, testosterone and belligerence - works for the Leafs, right?

A light heavyweight with some skills perhaps?

Canucks hockey = Moose hockey

the story about Volpatti asking for the 10 min penalty is funny and disturbing at the same time.

Sounds like he has Mike Brown upside. High praise, I know.

And that's probably a stretch. He's a month older than Brown.

Botch says he'll be signed to an ATO to play in Manitoba -- not a huge surprise.

Hopefully he's the "crease-clearer" you've all been hoping for.

I think Arniel has to be happy with some of the youth coming in. It really sounded from his interviews after the game the other day(a few of the vets as well) that there was a bit of stagnancy and complacency in the Moose locker room. Bringing in some young guys full of energy and enthusiasm has to be a bit of a shot in the arm.

According to Botchford, he will be signed to a ATO by the Moose.

Anyone have a good rundown on his skillset? Most importantly, can the guy skate?

I think you have cracked the signing. Gillis is going to hid him under the Canucks bench, then when Burrows gets into mischief, Burrows "ties his laces out of sight" and they quickly substitute the two and Volpatti (wearing Burrows number) goes out and has a fight, then comes back and switches places with Burrows. Improves Burrows reputation because now "he's a fighter" he can't be a diver.

Wow, he was basically a grinder for 3 seasons in the BCHL then 3 seasons in the NCAA before putting a half-decent year together at the age of 24. Can't say I'm that excited.

Hurray.

Sounds like he has some jam in his game.

I hope this guy doesn't look like Walsky is looking right now, just because he put up points in only his final season does not mean he will continue or be that type of player at the next level.

The key difference here is Walsky was signed because of his offensive abilities, Volpatti as a 4th line grinder. A succesful offensive season for Volpatti in the AHL is probably about 6 goals.

Walsky was one dimensional--offensive player or bust. Volpatti is a capable two-way player who brings a physical game. Could end up as Rypien/Glass type player or worst case, he bottoms out as a P.C. Labrie type guy. Either way, it's a pretty risk free move.

I guess you did not catch that drift in my post, I know's he's a utility type of player, just some on here seem to have high offensive hopes for him.

I don't think anyone is thinking he is going to be an offensive force. I've only read one comment about him possibly being in the top 6 on the Moose, which isn't considered very much. Matt Pope was in the top 6 and he has 5 pts in 35 games. I don't think expectations are high.

Most here are just hoping he can have an impact and bring energy to a somewhat deflated Moose team.

I love big mean players. This guy's name was thrown around a lot as a guy we would want to target in the last few weeks. Count me as a fan of this signing.

Pretty much how I feel. The odds are likely stacked against him though I guess there isn't a whole lot to lose at this point.

It is, but he's also a 24 year old senior playing in a (relatively) weak division.

Now for Erik Gustafsson please! Get 'er done Gillis!

It really does suck that the freaking Rangers signed Lee Baldwin, what with him being a local boy and all...

I think it's a great move, as usual we get an asset for nothing but to be honest I'm just glad that this year we went and got an asset that's more likely to fill a bottom 6 roll since it's that area we've had a bit more trouble with.

An '86 born from Revelstoke? I would have played against this guy a ton back in the day.
