What if we get out of the first round....I mean, Carter will be back, we'll be rolling a bit...Boucher will probably be playing at at least a passable level...nobody would be stoked to play us I don't think...

If we can get out of the first round I will be back at the front of the bandwagon. Right now I am quietly sitting in the back of this mother ****er scowling with my arms crossed.

I'm so pessimistic that missing the playoffs probably wouldn't bother me too much. I feel as if a "Playoff run" is simply too far fetched to get myself excited over. I'd almost wonder if missing the playoffs would benefit the long team long run, perhaps Holmgren would get the boot.

I hate to be the negative Nancy, but beyond blind optimism...I can't see this team competing in the playoffs "as is" against the likes of Washington/Pittsburgh/New Jersey.

On a side note, I really hope this team can get itself together within the next 2-4 years, I think it would be a shame not to make use of Pronger before he declines. (beyond a season and a few playoff rounds)

I have that "feeling" every year. Then the team digs it's own grave in the playoffs, then shows signs of life when they're down 3-1 in a series, and I think they can complete the miracle..... and then don't, and I'm left sitting there feeling like the dejected orphan who no one wants. Next year: wash, rinse, repeat. I just can't wait for this season to be over with. We went from legit contender, to a complete cluster **** of a joke. Sad part is, I'm gonna put myself through everything I just typed above all over again this playoffs, and then we're gonna get man handled by the penguins again.

Anything can happen?

That's why they play the game???

....

Miracle?

I'm still confident and I'll still buy my playoff tickets with expectations of winning every game.... Guess my hopes are too high.

Absolutely, for two reasons.

1. Carter getting hurt could be a blessing. Last week's team was not going to go deep in the playoffs, period. The only thing that could save us would be a big wake-up call to all the underperformers. This injury could provide that. The team can contend without Carter. It can't contend with Hartnell, JRV, Giroux, Briere, et al. underperforming. Ball's in their court.

2. August 14th, 2008. Sure, a little earlier in the baseball season than we are now in the hockey season, but the Phils had just lost a bunch of bad games, and J-Roll was running his mouth, and I confidently predicted that they were toast.

Today, may all pessimists here be as wrong as I was on that day.

i gave into the fact that once emery went down (the first time) i'd be happy if we just make the playoffs. anything above and beyond that would be great but my hopes are not high this year. if we don't get a goalie this off season it'll be tough to watch this team next year.

I'd love to see them rebound, now that things look bad. I expect some resilience but it has to start tonight. This is a must win game.

We can't leave it to a home and home with the Rangers to make the playoffs or secure a spot. It has to happen before then.

I'm as optimistic and hopeful as anyone, but at some point you realize that they're going to start the playoffs at a disadvantage. Once again, they don't have Home Ice even in the opening round, which is crucial considering the line-matching ability of the top 4 teams in the Eastern Conference.

It's not about pulling guys together and giving pep talks and all that. They're just not at the same level as some of the other teams in the league. There's no doubt that any team can come together to do great things as a team, but to believe that they can do that I'd have to see some good examples of them actually doing that this season.

I watched that Blackhawks game a couple of times just because it felt so good to see this team pull through like that. I remember being really excited two seasons ago when it seemed like they were going 100% every night. I don't get that feeling anymore. It's more a sense of stagnancy, as if they're just doing good enough. It's not very reassuring to see them drop 4 points to a team that's not even in the playoffs. They've been completely underwhelming against bottom feeders this season.

If anything, I'm more optimistic towards this summer. I'm not giving up on this season by any measure, but it's going to be really exciting to see what Laviolette can do with a full summer and there's definitely going to be some moves this off-season. Maybe the Flyers can weasel themselves into the 1st round and snag a gem.

It tickles me when fans of other teams have to tell us to get down off the ledge.

I'm not real hopeful but it ain't over till it's over. Go Flyers!

I'm sort of hoping somebody steps up with the extra ice time (JVR, Giroux, or Leino maybe) and picks up the slack, and Boucher gets hot. I'm not counting on it, but I'm hoping...it beats spending the rest of the season *****ing and then 3 months of wishing for hockey all summer.

It would suck to play the Pens again and lose though...

Powe is an energy and defense guy. We're not looking for him to put up points as often as Hartnell, Briere, JVR and Giroux. Those players stepping up is the only way this team is going to last past the first round.

I'd guess this is at least in part due to trying to run three scoring lines with a checker on each of them. If we see two scoring lines and two checking lines in the wake of Carter's injury I have a feeling things might start to look a little more cohesive.

Usually i would say this team will miss the playoffs, but this could light a fire, Hartnell, JvR, and Lieno might act like 25 goal scorers instead of 15 goal scorers

Great. Now the only problems are the 3, 4, 5 & 6th defensemen.
