I just saw on Yahoo transactions that Duchesne was sent down. Does this mean Backlund is healthy and coming up? Sorry, if this has already been posted...it's news to me.

Duchesne is still listed on the Flyers' roster (website) but Backlund was scheduled to take practice today in Philly (with Clarke and Hatcher) so unlikely that he traveled to Ottawa.

Wow, I gotta say, that is one epic GDT. I thought mine were good.

Btw, although Clouston changes his lines almost immediately into the game, they're probably going to start something like:
Regin - Spezza - Alfredsson
Cullen - Fisher - Kovalev
Ruutu - Kelly - Neil
Foligno - Winchester - Smith

Phillips - Volchenkov
Sutton - Karlsson
Carkner - Campoli

Elliott

I'm liking the new lines. Almost exactly what I predicted.

Thanks for the update.
Id switch JVR and Carcillo and Leino and Asham, but other then that, exactly what I expected. Time to see how the team reacts without their best goal scorer.

I'm just going to add that Pronger is always level headed when it comes to reactions/reflections upon recent gameplay. He makes no excuses like, "Oh, but Carter is hurt. How will we ever win now?"

Instead, he uses reason and says things like, "I don't think there's anything we can do about it. It's a part of the game that's unfortunate. It happens to every team; there's always injuries to key guys. It's up to us to find a way to play without him."

I really like this about him.

Some pregame quotes regarding the lines shuffle:

http://www.csnphilly.com/03/23/10/Gi...057&feedID=695

Quote:
“[Giroux’s] a skilled guy and he’s playing with a couple of guys who are proven goal scorers,” said coach Peter Laviolette. “We’ll see what that looks like. His minutes will go up a bit and his responsibility will go up a bit. It’s a great opportunity for him.”

The other changes will see Darroll Powe centering James van Riemsdyk and Arron Asham. Blair Betts will go between Ville Leino and Ian Laperriere.

Carter’s absence means that Leino, who has been in and out of the lineup with Asham, will have to stay in there for the foreseeable future.

Giroux had been centering JVR and Asham, fairly consistently, since late January.

“For the most part, we like him at center,” Laviolette said of Giroux. “He generates speed throughout the middle of the ice. He’s a skilled player, he’s got vision, and now he plays with a couple of guys. We’re at a starting point with that line to see what it looks like.”
Quote:
“Obviously, you have ups and downs during the season,” Giroux said. “Right now it’s not going in. I just have to keep it simple and work harder. Hopefully, it’s gonna start going in. I’m more excited to have more ice time and play on the second line.

“Any time you have a chance to play a higher line with good players, it’s always fun and a good opportunity for me to step up.”

The irony, of course, is that Briere remains on the wing, where he’s been much of his Flyer career even though he signed as a free-agent center. He hasn’t been at the position for any stretch of time since the 2007 season, mostly because of injuries.

“Whatever, I’m not in control of that,” Briere said, laughing of his former spot.

“I’m available, I’m up for it, I played the whole year on the wing. Claude has been playing in the middle on the third line. It’s probably easier at this time to keep it the same way. I have no clue what will happen in the future though. I don’t mind it at all.”

Duchesne is taking warmups, so it hasn't been done yet apparently.

Thanks for posting, I heard a couple of minutes of it in the car when he was talking about Pronger but that was it.

I'm actually conflicted about who to put at C. My gut says Briere but, who knows, Giroux might click this time...

honestly, I would put briere at center, based on the fact that giroux needs to learn how to play wing, seeing as thats where his huture is in this club
