Schneider and Shirokov are arguably the best players on the Moose.

Ellington should be in the AHL next season, Kablukov is doing well in Russia and Matson is doing well in U of Minnesota.

Nonis turned our abysmal prospect pool around and drafted some young players to get excited about - the first time in a long time for this franchise. He also got the pieces necessary to acquire Ehrhoff and O'Brien.

But yeah, **** him.

Good for Prab, by the way.
Matson is a 4th line center in Minnesota who at best could be a 4th n the NHL. Kablukov is a 4th liner in the KHL who will likely never come to the NHL.

Ellington is a defensive defenseman who isn't that great at defense. He was taken ahead of the following WHL players: Repik, Moller and Tyrell, all of whom are regular contributors in the AHL 2 of which have had significant stints in the NHL.

Ellington was and continues to be a terrible pick.

Oh and the pieces to get O'Brien and Ehrhoff, two castaways from their old teams were Simek, White and Rahimi, none of which will likely see the NHL. White being the most blatantly bad pick.

You know I must admit, I've just never been that excited about Rai. And the interesting thing is that I can't really determine why. I'm trying to be more objective about the signing, and while I never disliked the signing, I just didn't really think Rai was at the top of my list to sign if I'm GM MG.

But it's interesting because he's ranked quite high on the HF future list of the Canucks. He's well ahead of Oberg at that. I know that list isn't picture perfect at the best of times but it's still an objective source however inaccurate.

Part of me thinks the success of this signing will hinge more on how important speed becomes on NHL teams over the next few years than anything.

Who knows, maybe he'll be the next Brandon Yip!

My 2nd favourite Rai, after Aishwarya.

Prab can take the bronze for now.

Being Punjabi myself, this is good news. Hopefully he can progress well and make the Canucks in a few years.

Under those parameters, I think Manny Malhotra would be the closest comparison.

Why is that exactly? I would love some explanation.

Multi-cultural is definitely the way to go.

The US may be a melting pot but Canada (and by default Vancouver) is a cultural mosaic.

That's crappy news. I'm surprised it's only 5 weeks though, when I had mono they said I couldn't play contact spots for 2 months and no liquor for nearly 3. I wonder if he's had it a while and they just caught on to it.

Well, I'm pretty sure you know what I'm getting at, but I can spell it out for you if you'd like:

prab rai = east indian
manny malhotra = east indian/caucasian

I just find it amusing how people compare Rai to players like Yip or Park. Why not Raymond or Grabner?

It's like how Steve Nash would be compared to John Stockton. Nash replied with something along the lines of, "There's nothing similar about us other than the colour of our skin."

This is not an attack on you by any means, I may not post much, but I read alot of these boards and you're one of the better posters. cheers.

Does anybody remember when Prab Rai compared himself to Pavel Datsyuk in an interview? (I think it was on PPV)

What I question about Rai is his character. He demands a trade from an albiet bad Prince George team, (I am from PG and that team was horrible) to go to another bad team (Seattle ws not good then either). I am not saying that it was not a good move for him as the cougars are not a team to develop........anything.........but is that the kind of character that you really want? A guy that if things don't go his way he just packs his bags and quits, or would you like a guy that trys to fight to make a bad team better. In my opinion I want the guys that try to fight and make a bad situation better..........my 2 cents

Yeah I don't really know who the hell requests a trade in junior either, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt in the situation because I don't know the circumstances of his request. Anybody know the story?

Victoria has a good team, with good leadership and coaching, so if there's actually any character issues hopefully they can get ironed out there.

I have seen Rai in interviews and he does seem like kind of a flake, but again, it's hard to judge a guy like that.

I honestly had no idea Malhotra was half east Indian. That's a fun fact. The only Malhotra fun fact I have is that coincidentally, since you brought up Nash is that he's the guys brother in law. Funny coincidence I guess.

I agree that player comparisons are often based around race to a certain extent. When you look at players in the entry draft who are Swedish, and they compare them to a current NHL player they are also Swedes for the most part. Same with Russians, etc. etc. I can't explain why that is.

In this case I suppose I did that, though Yip and Rai are both Canadian, and from the greater Vancouver area.

I actually went to a Giants game this year when the T-Birds were in town and was excited to watch Rai. T-Birds had a horrible game, Rai might have stood out a little bit but their team played horribly.

Frow what I remember here in PG. He was not happy with his playing time or his coach. However he was 16 and making plenty of mistakes so his playing time should not of been huge anyways... Like the poster above said he like to compare himself with the elite and has done nothing to prove it

I have just gone down this road in this huge thread on the main NHL forum about the Volchekov hit on Gagne last night.

Flyers fans were adamant the reason it was not called was that the referee did not see the play and that the referee had actually told Gagne that. It made no sense because on the replays you can see the back referee looked right at Gagne as Volchekov delivered the hit.

Finally someone posted the actual comment by Gagne and surprise it was not what had been represented over and over again.
Quote:
“If I were a bit closer to the boards, maybe my neck would have a full impact and we’re talking something worse this morning. We got two referees on the ice and they don’t see it. I don’t know if the league is going to do something."
I always like to read the originating source material rather than get a filtered opinion what someone thinks was said.

BTW here is the bio for the guy reporting the mono story:
http://dcmahiban.wordpress.com/about/

It is a well written piece of puffery.

A junior hockey career represent a very narrow window of opportunity to make an impression with NHL scouts. Rai was playing behind Dana Tyrell, Eric Hunter, Nick Drazenovic, Greg Gardner and even Evan Fuller and felt he wasn't getting a chance in PG. The coach was fired 15 games into the season and with the train wreck of a season unfolding, Rai's father pulled him off the team. Can you really blame a 16 year old when his father says "this isn't working, come home"? His production exploded along with his ice time after being traded to Seattle - an arguable less talented team with better coaching. As an undrafted player, the chances of making an NHL roster would have become infinitely longer and I am pretty confident that if he had not left PG he would not have been drafted.
