If we traded for Malkin, we wouldn't have the money to keep Kovalchuk.

22 pts in 20 games? It's not horrible davey...

I still wouldn't do this trade. Parise is the heir to Marty's throne.

Tough call. Really tough call.

I just like Zach's style of play and tenacity better. It's unmatched.

I hope that's cool.

ask Joe Thornton
Malkin has already won a cup and playoff MVP. I wouldn't compare him to Joe Thornton.

malkin is a mongoloid but id LOVE to have him on this team. not at the expense of the future captain and current face of the franchise though.

Absolutely not. For Kovalchuk, okay, I'd consider it.

Kovy-Malkin-Elias would be one of the best lines ever.

As in Malkin for a signed Kovalchuk? I'd do that, for sure.

We probably wouldn't be able to keep Kovalchuk if we picked up Malkin. We wouldn't be able to fit under the cap without gutting the rest of the roster, and Lou is never going to do that. That's the Rangers method.

Yes, no brainer. Malkin is the third best forward in the game and a perennial 110 point guy.

I have doubts about Malkin even as much as i have doubts about parise. but i'd easily take malkin over parise any day of the week.

This thread is insane. I know you guys love Zach, but come on...

The homerism and "what have you done for me in the last five minutes" attitude of sports fans is pretty hilarious.

Malkin, off year or not, injured or not, is one of the Big 3 in the NHL. The only people you shouldn't trade him for (maybe) are... those other two guys.

That is if you've got your head on straight and aren't just a fan being a huge homer.

The reason I disagree is the difference in salary for the difference in quality of play.

All things being equal, yes I would trade Parise for Malkin straight up. Malkin is arguably the 3rd best player in the world (behind Ovechkin and Crosby).

If you take their current contracts into account then no, definitly not. Malkin isn't that much better than Parise to justify making 5.5mil a year more.

that's kind of the only thing I'm buying right now. But like I said before, on paper alone... without contracts and 'intangibles'... I don't see how everybody is so quick to write off Malkin.

Maybe its because he's homegrown talent, in which case that is certainly something to keep in mind. Because if we had drafted Malkin, and the our roles were reversed... we'd be defending Malkin
