chris mason was traded to st luis for 4th round pick,
also got dwayne rolson, who got traded for edm 1st rounder, but had 8th seson behind him, coming from a season of .933 s% and 1.88 g against.
luango got a top 6 forward and ****** goalie.
You put way too much stock into shutouts. leclaire was in the middle of a crappy season where he lost his starters job to Mason. Leclaire has had 1 good season his entire career and 1 good season behind a stingy defensive team wasn't going to fool anybody. Ottawa simply overpaid, and got burned.
whatever the stat may be, i dont see many goalies being trade for players fans would want!
this aint an argument on value of price or halak, i dont think the return will ever be as high as 90% are thinking about. wether i overvalue some goaltenders. i really doubt it, thats all. looking at prior trades, i cant see any indication for anything anyone has suggested here, unless its nice package. (lapierre is not a package lol, would have to be something like obyrne,)

i think most of you are on a cloud right now
Those are all bad examples.
Chris Mason had a LOSING record and a sv% under .900 at the time of his trade.
Dwayne Roloson also had a losing record at the time of his trade 6-17.
Luongo was a RFA and was basically a dump because they didn't want to lose him for nothing.
However I agree that we are probably over valuing Halak but your examples aren't really finding quality goalies, but there is an explanation for that.
Teams don't trade #1 goalies because they generally need them. Not many teams have had two capable #1 goalies.

i agree examples dont hold up (anyways no goaltender is like another), but what does hold up is that there is no goaltender that has been traded for something decent except the examples i gave.
dunno how halak, with less games, is more of a num 1 goaltender then leclair was. same with rolly.
Is that for either, or just Halak ? Either or, I shake my head at you.
People, stop quoting Westislander. He's not smart. I made it so I couldn't see his posts anymore and you should do the same.
That's for either. I'd take Eberle plus a defenseman (Smid?) for Price or Halak. I'd still have to think long and hard about it. I also want to see how the season unfolds. If Halak leads us to the 3rd round, SCF, or the Stanley Cup.. I'd be really hard to trade him. Same for Price.
How about Price + 1st pick 2010 vs EDM 1st pick 2010.
so, Price + (some chipchura type of player that you draft in 24th overal) for hall or seguin? doubt that. edmon will be building their future with this draft.

You could say this, but you'd be looking at the situation blindly. Leclaire got a hefty return because Mason emerged as their #1 while Leclaire was hurt.
Leclaire missed 56 games that season (and played in 12). Yes, he wasn't playing great - but if the situation went as clearly as you described it, there is no way he would of got the return he did.
Ottawa knew they were taking a huge risk because he was injured and didn't play even after he was traded.
And saying he had just one good season? If you think the team loses games for Carey Price here, you should see how bad the Blue Jackets used to be - despite goaltending that kept them in games at some points.

Start with the 1st round pick? Start? If we were offered the 1st overall pick for Price, at the draft, and we turned it down.. I'd cry. We wouldn't even need anything else.
The great part about it is, he wouldn't even need to play in our top-6 right away so he'd have time to develop. He could play with Sergei and hopefully, Dominic Moore.

So, Price is not good enough for the '' future'', even Edmonton ?

Price or Halak + Pouliot and our second draft pick for their first

As an Oilers/Flyers fan I think the Oilers are better off keeping their pick. They've lacked top end forward talent for quite some time. This is their best chance to get what they've been sorely lacking. They'd be fools to pass up on it, IMO. Price would be a great foundational piece, but they've got time to address goaltending.
From a Flyers perspective I'd offer JVR or Giroux for Price

If the Flyers actually offered JVR for Price, Gauthier would be crazy not to accept this.

So what do you think Edmonton would have to give up in order to acquire Price/Halak?

Easy... I would rather have Halak and Hall/Seguin than just Price. In my mind both goalies are the same, I don't care how high their "ceiling" is. As soon as the goalie starts to win you games, he's just about hit his ceiling.
I wouldn't offer MPS or ebs for Halak, I would start by dangling Penner and Cogliano in front of the Gauthier, and maybe take a bad contract (gomez?). But I would rather deal Penner, Cogs, and the 31st overall pick for Halak rather than absorb Gomez's monster contract.

Price, Akost, Skost, 1st pick vs EDM 1st pick 2010?
Go read the trade boards... Apparently Downie is worth muuuuuuuuuuuch more than Halak
And we're the homers? Come on...
I dunno about much more but other than his crosby figure four he has been surprisingly good this year, it would be an even trade in my books just because goalie values arent nearly as high as players. If halak wins a play offs series or two then its not even at all though.
