Well, on the one hand their defenders can make some plays in the box...on the other they're having to do it a lot.....

2 of the 3 yellows felt harsh but that is to be expected on the road. Obviously a very young team but I cant wait to see what Torres does on dry grass. Torres looks like a star.

Gonna be a rough season, but they are showing some promise out there. Tough call to be thrown out on, but what are you gonna do?

I dont know how rough a season it will be. First game vs. one of the best home teams in the league. I think they'll grow as the season progresses and be a potentially dangerous team.

Do they have a schedule out yet?

Le Toux is pretty good, he looked it at least last year for Seattle when I saw him.

Yeah he's got some nasty moves.

I've remembered why I haven't watched much soccer lately. GET OFF THE ****ING GROUND YOU *******! This sport would be incredible if they were hockey players.

true. I don't get that mad when they embellish legit fouls a little bit. What I get mad at is when they flop, or they embellish a legit foul and then lay on the ground for five minutes like they got killed, and then are back to full pace 30 seconds later.

It's just how it is in soccer. Worse than hockey in that regard.

I played soccer like it was hockey. Tried as damn hard as I can to not get taken down, and when I did, I was up in an instant. None of this, "Oh mah gawd who shot me?!" I was glad to see the Union players keeping it to a minimum.

As much as we complain about the NHL not doing more about diving, it's been raging in soccer with FIFA for even longer. They really need to crackdown on this ****, because it's ridiculous...you see some guy rolling around like he had his leg amputated by a horde of rabid hamsters, they squirt it with the magic water bottle, and he's up and rearing as if nothing happened.

It's ridiculous.

The talent level isn't as high either in the MLS, but it has gotten better. With Philly in the league now with Seattle last year, and Vancouver and Portland next season, the league should start picking up some momentum. Philly, Seattle, and Vancouver have pretty dedicated fan bases and I'm not too sure about Portland. I am envisioning a lot of sellouts in Philly and some loud crowds. My suggestion to you, if you want to get the whole "European" soccer feel, join the supporters group (the Sons of Ben) and sit in the supporters section. That's about as close as you will get. Haven't been to a Philly Union game yet (as there have not been any), but I was a supporter of Red Bull New York (Empire Supporters Club) up until the Philly team came in to play, and their supporter section was pretty crazy.
I went to a Red Bulls game last year with a friend of mine whose a huge soccer fan, and them ****ers are ridiculous. The seats we got were all the way in back and off to the side though, and as I'm not a huge soccer fan, I just couldn't really get into the game. I would imagine though that if you were able to score seats in the supporters section, it would be a lot better of an experience. That said, I'm definitely going to try to make it out to a couple Union games this year.

If the Union has a supporters section as awesome as the Sounders looked yesterday, I will try to make it to a game to check it out. Not a soccer fan, but I'm liking the Union and their supporters.

I might buy a scarf or something, haha.

Also, The Sons of Ben is the coolest thing ever. The Jolly Franklin logo is incredible, haha.

Until the refs stop rewarding it the way they do...you basically have to if you want to have any success. That's the real problem.

my brother is one of the founders of the SoB, him and bunch of them flew out to seattle for the game, which is pretty cool. wish i could have gone.

my thoughts on the game are positive. Seattle is going to be a top team in the league this year and to come out, a brand new team with super young players who are pretty unfarmiliar with eachother and to generate some good chances against them is pretty good to see. Once the players have some experience under their belts i think they'll start generating some good offense.
the defense looked pretty good and chris seitz looked like a future star in the net.

i think this team has alot of potential
