Well, we're grasping at straws now so why not? Down goes goalies number one and two and number three can't cut it so might as well go for number four. Then I guess if Backlund sucks then give Hutton or Duchesne a try?

Does this look like the face of a loser to you?

Hell ****ing no, that Swedish ***** has winner written all over him...look at that cocky ****-eating grin.

I dig his hairstyle too, looks a lot like mine at the moment. And, his name is just ****ing cool. Johan Backlund. Come on...that's good stuff. Take us to the promised land, Johan.

His good buddy shooter must receive money on the back end of some of these contracts he hands out. That is the only rational explanation.
I'd still make that bet.

As for Boosh, he may very well share the AHL net with Hutton next season.

Nittys 1st 2-3 something games were against New Jersey Devils and he was excellent.

In 1st game he was simply on fire stopping every god damn shot even if it was going wide. I do not remember if he got a SO. Maybe someone can dig that info out?

The guy sports hockey jerseys with a collar. The rest of the team has no collar, only he gets one...because he is so prestigious. You wish your name was Johan Backlund.

According to http://www.hockeygoalies.org/bio/niittymaki.html

he had wins in his first 5 starts

02/04/04: W (60m, 19/20) 5-1 victory vs. Washington (Kolzig).
02/05/04: W (59m57s, 20/21) 5-1 victory at Atlanta (Nurminen).
02/10/04: W (59m58s, 35/36) 4-1 victory vs. New Jersey (Brodeur).
10/07/05: W (59m41s, 26/28) 5-2 victory vs. New Jersey (Brodeur).
10/14/05: W (63m15s, 15/20) 6-5 OT victory vs. Pittsburgh (Fleury, Caron).

And, it's amazing, there's more support for Backlund who hasn't seen 1 NHL shot than there was for Leighton after posting win after win after win.

Johan Backlund wouldn't wipe his ass with Michael Leighton's glove hand.

Yeah, Leighton was only winning games at the NHL level putting up a GAA just over 2 and a save %age over .920 while Backlund was struggling to win games at the AHL level with a GAA over 2.70 and a save %age just over .900.

If it weren't for Leighton's 16 wins, the Flyers right now would be in 9th place at best.

But, sure, let's jump on the Backlund bandwagon just because he might be a better option that Boucher is right now.

o wow.. I was way off I guess he played against At and Caps 1st. Totally forgot. Games against NJ I do remember, he was rock solid.

I think he let in soft goal against Pittsburgh. A game that took us to OT when he was staring at some blonde in stands right? Goal was almost from center ice off faceoff. That was funny as hell. I was not even mad.

Nitty was a solid AHL goalie tough. What about new guy? 906% is nothing to write home about. I guess we'll see.

You beat me to it, there is a lot of similarities. As mentioned, hopefully the team gives him the opportunity to be the saviour. If he gets a good start maybe he can find his "flow" and take us to the Stanley cup. ehrm, yes!

Actually Nitty's numbers in his rookie season are comparable to Backlund's

14-21-2, 2.58 GAA, .903 save %age

The Phantoms that season were equally as bad as Backlund's team is.

The difference is that Niittymaki didn't make a NHL start in his rookie season and it's a good thing as he definitely was not ready at that time. Is Backlund? I guess we'll see tomorrow.

Really pelts? Do I really have to stop here and be serious and explain that you are taking my posts waaaaaaaay too seriously.

This post is a waste of Johan's bandwidth. You don't mess with Johan's bandwidth.

What does his personal life have to do with it?

In fairness to The Johan...in thinking back on that comment, I wouldn't want some dude's hand wiping my ass either. Let's rephrase and say that Johan wouldn't wipe his ass with Michael Leighton's stat sheet.

I'm not a fan of the nickname "The Johan" because it makes me think of that ****** movie. But Backlund will lead us to the promised land.

No, you don't. I guess I'm just frustrated by the fact that Backlund hasn't even roughed up his crease yet and it seems that he has more support than Leighton ever did.

Haha, yeah I was going to point out in my last post, that I'm hesitant in referring to him in any way that relates to that movie as I've never even seen it. I know I thought it looked pretty damn awful in the previews, but I never actually saw it and never spoke to many people who did.

For now, I'll refrain from "The Johan", but I reserve the right to go with it again should I see the movie and like it. That seems unlikely, though.

Besides, when your name is as ****ing badass as "Johan Backlund", you don't need no stinking ****ing nickname.
