The plan is for him to start a game in goal next week.

Playing Ward at this point is silly. Unless they're really trying to grab that eighth playoff spot, which seems pretty unlikely, why risk injuring him again? I guess the argument could be made that you'd rather start next season with a Cam Ward who hasn't played a game since March than a cam Ward who hasn't played a game since January, but that seems like splitting hairs to me. With the way Carolina players are dropping like flies lately I wouldn't want to risk Ward's health. As far I'm concerned, Cam Ward IS the Carolina Hurricanes, they will succeed or fail as he does.

I think they have to see if he can play... They have to have some answers for next year... Not play a lot but 2-3 games... If his back feels good, they have to see how it feels after a game to really know what sort of treatment to continue in the offseason.

Yeah, I don't like the idea either, but there's always the "legalities" to consider...namely, the fact that once the doctor clears him and he says he's ready, he's gotta play. Of course, doctors can be persuaded and Cam can lie, but it's entirely possible they've been playing that game for a while already. Who knows.

I also wonder if they're trying to get Peters back down to Albany to fix their injury problems down there. I know...small concern...but it's *possible*.

Yeah, I don't get it. Especially with the injury to Ruutu.

Either play Ruutu and Ward or don't play either one.

On why they want to play Ward:

Quote:
While the Canes will need every possible point over the last nine games of this season to even consider the possibility of a playoff spot, the team is more concerned about getting Ward back in games to get the best possible read on his condition moving forward.

”To leave the season when he’s done playing with a real good idea of where his injury is at … is very important so we’re not having those same questions in September of next year,” said coach Paul Maurice.
This is good:

Quote:
Despite initial concerns over the most recent problem, Ward said he expects a full recovery in relatively short order.

”The doctor told me there was a five percent chance of it coming back, so I like my odds,” he said.

That's exactly why I said I like him playing some down the stretch... We have to see how this back responds to actually playing... We can't go into next year not having any idea how he will respond...

LOL... I think we can win 3-4 games and still remain in the bottom 3-4... I just want Cam to look good for a few games... I hope he plays Sat... I think it's the last big home game where the fans will be out tailgating... Be nice to be drunk and see a shutout in the same game... Of course if all else fails, I'll just take drunk LOL

There's also April 3...the much-celebrated "Fan Appreciation Night" that I always miss.

"Cam Ward's return will come sooner rather than later.
Canes coach Paul Maurice said today that Ward would start in goal Monday in Atlanta against the Thrashers. Justin Peters has been reassigned to Albany (AHL).
Maurice had said Ward's first start since Feb. 3 would come in the middle of next week. But Ward has tested out his back, feels good and will be Manny Legace's backup Saturday against the Thrashers at the RBC Center.
Maurice said injured defenseman Alex Picard (upper body) still was "week to week" and not yet close to returning. That means more playing time for Bryan Rodney."
