Erik Christensen Appreciation Thread (Re-sign him!)

For a guy who we claimed off waivers, Erik has done a really good job for us. The trouble is that in the past, guys who have done well for us have been deemed surplus to requirements by Sather.
Christensen's a RFA in the off season but is only on a $750000 contract, I'd say to not sign him would be ludicrous.
He's got a creativity that we've lacked for a while and if I was Sather I'd do what I could to make sure he stays put.

Surely you guys think he's worth having too, right?

Give him another year at 750K. I'll be happy with that.

For the first time in his career, EC's a plus player... He actually leads the team with a +13 rating.

Re-sign Christ!

He seems to be comfortable here and is regaining his confidence. He plays well with Gaborik and his playmaking ability is something this team sorely lacks and at the price he will bring it for it would be dumb not to resign him.

I'm with you - the guy has steadily improved as his shattered confidence started to come back. Hopefully no one else around the league is noticing. He had 22+ minutes of ice time against the Devils...

0.5 PPG. He's been pretty consistent, so I think it's safe to say on a course of 82 games he'd be able to hit 40. His skillset is kind of his biggest problem - he isn't effective whatsoever as a 3rd/4th line player, yet he's not good enough to be playing 1st or 2nd line duties. I'd gladly see him back, it seems he's slowly rebuliding his confidence that has been ruined with all those moves in his career lately. I guess 1-year or even 2-year deal wouldn't hurt, but if he'll be made our 1st line center, then no. Smaller role, sure.

Would not mind giving him like 1 year 1 million, or if he wants a 2 year deal something like 850,000 per year. They can always bury Voros in Hartford next year.

It's amazing how much more bang for the buck we've gotten out of Christiansen than Jokinen.

The great thing with Gaborik is that he is the type of player who likes to have the puck a lot so for him, he doesn't necessarily need a #1 center, he just needs someone who can control it when they have it and give him the puck when he is open. That is why Prospal and Christensen work so well with him. Neither are 1st line players, but both have the skill to give him the puck when he is open and finds his holes in the offensive zone.

I would be okay with him playing with Gaborik on the 1st line as long as it increased our depth(say trading for Richards who then solidifies the 2nd line).

He's inconsistent but is all offense. Get him for cheap and he's a good third or second line player.

id keep him for 750k, otherwise he can walk.

hes not a player i would lose sleep over losing. I think hes such a feel good story because of the way so many of our players have been epic failures here.

Was actually going to make this thread, you beat me to it.

Hes got all the skill he needs to be a top player. While consistancy is an issue, a resigning at a low price would be a fantastic move for this organization.

Definitely bring him back; he's a very useful bang for buck type player. He can play with the stars, grinders, or be scratched and it's fine.

He has amazing skills, he just has to gain confidence.

Look what Torts did for Martin St. Louis, not saying Christy will be that good, but he could turn into the Rangers version of Rich Peverely.

He's also only going to be an RFA so holding onto his rights is a no brainer.

Christensen is basically a 40 point player playing on the top line....good god hes overrated.

A nice player on the cheap, sure. but any kind of a raise and im not interested.

Surely you'd take him for Voros' or Brashear's (god willing) $1 million? (I know Brash is making 1.4).

I wouldn't be against resigning Christensen for 700k. But he does not belong in the top 6 if they want to be a playoff team next year, unless they get Kovalchuk than you can live with Christensen. He has a lot of skill but he is a really soft player. He is an ideal third line player but the rangers have a lot of those in Drury, Avery, a young Anisimov etc for next year.
