"I knew it was coming. I had it in the back of my mind, but I was drinking my Gatorade and caught him out of the corner of my eye, and didn’t have time to react. He was too fast – he came charging. It’s all right, it’s all fun and games."
Gotta work on that reaction time if you want to do well in the NHL, Jimmy!
Draper said he’s been relatively quiet as a birthday bandit this year because “I pretty well have the whole dressing room.” Except one. There’s one guy whom Draper never has gotten.
Any guesses?
It is, naturally, no. 5, Nicklas Lidstrom.
I'm imagining Drapes hiding behind a corner on Lidstroms' birthday, shaving cream towel in hand...Lidstrom appears and Draper rushes out. St. Nick gives Drapes an icy glare which chills the whole locker room, and draper retreats slowly in shame...

It's because Lidstrom doesn't use the locker rooms, after each game he ascends back to the heavens, waiting for the next time the Red Wings are in need of his protection.

when i was reading your 1st clause, i was expecting a punchline based on lidstrom being a robot, but i like where you went with it.

Father and son walk out of the Joe after another Wings win. Little Timmy see's a shooting star over the river front and says "Look daddy! I saw a shooting star!"
Dad laugh's at the little boys wonder and goes "No son, thats not a shooting star"
"Well, what is it then?" The little boy questions.
Dad pats his son on his head and tells him "Well son, that is Saint Lidstrom ascending back to heaven so that he can protect the Wings another day"
Dad pauses in thought for a moment, wipes the tear forming in his eye and add's "He protects all of us."

I hope he gets Lidstrom, he should be a part of the tradition, since he might be retiring too! His birthday is end April, so maybe during a nice long playoff run :p
