Agreed. When I lived in Tennessee we had the Knoxville Speed (formerly of the UHL). It was a UHL expansion team and they had a name the team contest. The winning entry was actually the "Speed Demons", but the owners didn't want to offend anyone -- it was Bible-belt country, after all -- so they shortened it.

They shortened it for the sake of the Drug attics instead of the Devil worshipers ??

When really the should have shortened it to include neither, enrolled the people that gave that suggestion into a drug rehab program and chosen a better name .

My favorite bush-league team name: the Macon Whoopees.

But for dumb names, think about some of the old, established names. Red Sox and White Sox: named after a sweaty, smelly article of clothing. Why not the Boston Jockey Shorts or the Chicago Gotchees?
And while it's been around for a long time, do you think anyone today would choose the unexciting and ungrammatical name Maple Leafs for a hockey team in Toronto? No way.

It may be unexciting, but it is grammatically correct.

He is just a confused Leaf basher. Nothing new. Ignore him and maybe he will go away...
