This move is brilliant we get a goalie and Carter back in the lineup.

I'm kind of curious why we are doing it. Is it because we are in a position where we can take any chance we can get and something radical may change the team?

They are doing it because he is the second best and second most established healthy goalie in the organization right now. Don't worry about it, it blows my ****ing mind too.

I don't think that anyone is going out on a limb here or taking a risk on the kid. When everyone else gets injured you have to call some one else. Most teams don't have five NHL ready goalies (including the Flyers) so when three goalies go down, you are left with very little other choice. It was either him or Duschene and neither really have any experience to speak of. I'd like to see him given a chance. Can't do much worse than Boucher, especially when the team is scoring -4 goals per game.

Understood. That was pretty much what i was trying to say in one sentence...the fact that it's come to that makes my head hurt.

Here's the official word on Backlund as mentioned earlier in the GDT:

http://www.csnphilly.com/03/28/10/Fl...995&feedID=695

Quote:
Backlund day-to-day

Goalie Johan Backlund, who lasted just two periods of his NHL debut before leaving because of the groin issue, is listed as day-to-day, according to Holmgren.

“He’s better today, but he’s obviously not ready to even back-up, so he’s going to see the doctor again before the players go out for warm-ups,” Holmgren said. “So hopefully we’ll have a better idea, but he’s better today. We’ll take it as a good sign.”

The schedule, which has the Flyers off until Thursday, when they take on the Islanders in New York, will benefit

“Let’s hope,” Holmgren said.

ill give Hutton a shot. I just dont think hes going to get it this year unless its a extreme emergency situation.
Who cares that he was a rival of my team as well in college hockey.
Guess he was pretty impressive Saturday night in Manchester in the loss from what I heard.
Sucks about Backlund. groin injuries are never a good thing for any hockey player let alone a goalie.

Is it just me, or did he look kind of like a young Boosh?

A friend once made this comparison. I don't know.

Hutton is going back down. He can't stay in the NHL with his amateur tryout contract.

Hutton's stay will be brief. He was with the Flyers on an emergency basis. Under the terms of the amateur tryout agreement he signed with the Phantoms on March 20, he is only permitted to be in the NHL for one game.

So, I guess that means that Duchense will sit on the bench while Backlund is out?

Most likely, although Backlund may be ready to backup by Thursday.

The Flyers could sign Hutton to an ELC to allow him to stay up I believe, but this truly was an emergency "just in case" situation and they don't want/need to do that.

I've thought that Briere looks like Ryan from the Office before.

Despite Homer saying that Backlund is "day to day" I can't see a goalie who heard his groin go pop being ready to go less than a week after the injury.
