He should (get some consideration) but he won't

As you mentioned in another thread, next year will be important for Howard. Second year in the league and players know him better by then and can adjust to him.

Kind of strange to see "Myers is having a good, not great, rookie year," and, "Jackman was insane that year," in the same thread (different posters, I know).

Myers' rookie year is light years ahead of Jackman's, for the record. If one of them was good but not great, it was Jackman. Myers is having an astounding rookie campaign. Count me a Howard fan, I hope he wins the Calder, but I'd have no problem with Myers winning it. In fact, I think he has the slight edge at this point. And if you consider age (Wings fans won't want to, I know), it's not even close. Howard has been more valuable to his team, but that's not in the award's criteria.

I agree Myers is definitely the front runner, with Howard close behind in second. Age is going to be a huge factor here, not saying that its correct, but with Howard you have a 25 or 26 year old who has been in the system for a while, whereas with Myers you have a 19/20 year old rookie dman who is the number 1 dman on his team already, playing 24 min a game, and with 2 pts today only 5 shy of 50 on the season.

Even if he doesn't hit 50 points I think he wins the award, but if he hits 50, I can't even think of the last rookie dman to hit 50 since Lidstrom. Phaneuf came close with 49 and Bryan Berard had 48, can't think of any others at the moment.
