Canucks have 3 players younger than him - Raymond, Grabner and Hansen. Kesler is only 9 months older. I don't get it but whatever - not my money.

Don't know if it's been mentioned, but Volpatti has been signed to an ATO by the Moose.

Should be good to go for the Moose game in Abbotsford on Monday the 29th. That should be a good game to get to--see Schroeder, Volpatti, Oberg, Schneider et al in action.

Capgeek has him listed as a two-way, making 200,000 in the AHL. 600,000 NHL in the first year, and 625,000 in year two. Makes a lot more sense. I'd guess that the Moose might pick up some of the AHL money.

$200,000 is still a pretty damn decent amount to make playing for the Moose. But meh, it goes to show that Canucks ownership is willing to fork over the cash which I like.

That's probably what it took to get him. He's most likely aware that he'll spend the bulk of this deal in the AHL and he's already lost 4 years of his ~10-15 years of pro hockey career earning potential.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Moose pick up some of that, either.

Apparently he was negotiating with 8 NHL teams so a minimum AHL salary on his ELC was unlikely to get the deal done. Just one of the benefits of being a free agent.

I saw somebody mention somewhere (probably this thread) that Volpatti was going toe to toe with guys like Lucic back in the BCHL days. I wasn't sure whether that was brought up only because they played in that league around the same time, so I did a little research on the manner. Obviously this doesn't mean an awful lot given it was years ago and both players have taken very, very different routes to get where they now are. But still, anytime a guy is mentioned in the same sentance as Lucic you have to raise your eyebrow. Besides, most people complained that we didn't go after Lucic, especially since he was "in our backyard" so regardless of whether Volpatti gets anywhere near the same success as Lucic should at least make people happy that the Canucks are going after these types of players, especially local ones, and ones that don't "cost" draft picks.

Volpatti, a 6-foot-1, 203-pound smash-mouth winger who took on heavyweights like Milan Lucic during his B.C. Hockey League days, finished his senior year in Providence, R.I. with 17 goals, 32 points and 115 penalty minutes.

4th liner at best. but looks like a career minor leaguer but we have to show the moose some love.

If he becomes a 4th liner than that's a great signing in itself. Any player you can pick up for free(not traded for) that can play on your team is a great move. If he could be a Boll type player that would be even better, a guy that can hit, fight and play hockey would be wicked.

I saw the goal, but missed his fight...

How did he look in the fisticuffs department?

$200k might make him easier to move up and down from waivers (or is he waiver exempt still), it could scare off some of the financially weaker teams that can't risk getting stuck with an expensive player in the minors.

It's because Schroeder and Kadri are comparable prospects, it has nothing to do with where they were taken in the draft.

I heard our boy Volpatti had a goal and a fight last night. Epic. If anyone was at the game and wants to share their take it would be awesome. Otherwise I'm going to check out some Winnipeg newspapers for anything I can find.

He fought Logan MacMillan who is about the same size and weight and by all accounts won. Got some good shots in and the take down. He has quick hands.

Desbien's fight was more of a long extended waltz as neither player was able to get their punching hand free.
