Nice! So he's used to receiving zero defensive support.

NYR starting to make a habit of picking up standout goaltenders from non-big-name Div1 universities.

If I get lucky this guy, SLU's starter next year http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UXf2CqxJuw

will be next.

Does this mean they won't be signing Scrivens?

Great signing. Was hoping this was true. Like this as much as the move trading for CJ when we did it.

This kid has skills. The simple fact that he's never really wilted under the pressure of backstopping a team like Alabama-Huntsville is incredible in and of itself.

The Rangers have been good at picking up quality goaltending at bargain rates recently, and CJ and Zaba specifically point to success at the NCAA level. Hopefully we can add this guy to this list.

I feel like finding a good goalie is a crapshoot. Thankfully, we have Hank so we can really grab a bunch of these guys and hope that they turn out well without really having pressure on them.

There's definitely some luck involved but in no way is it a crapshoot. There's a reason teams like San Jose and Minnesota continue to bring up NHL goaltending while teams like Philadelphia and Ottawa struggle to find and develop them.

I learned years ago in the minor leagues that the best place to look for undervalued goaltending assets was really bad teams. We'll have to see if he passes the eye test. I do like the aggressive nature of the front office in these signings.

Agreed. You can never have too many goaltending prospects as far as I'm concerned.

Definitely. Like Bob said, I'm really pleased with how aggressive the organization seems to be in targeting these unsigned/undrafted players. Absolutely no cost to us in terms of assets.

"We had a good feeling somebody was going to sign him," said UAH head coach Danton Cole. "He had a great year and he's done the work he needed to do.

"It's a tribute to him how he improved over these three years."
Quote:
"He will finish his degree and he has put himself in a position to play pro hockey at the NHL level," Cole said. "He helped us to a league championship this year and is our first student-athlete to sign an NHL level deal right out of UAH. It is only the beginning for him and his career."

The Wolf Pack have signed Talbot to an ATO, and with the Wolf Pack soon to have nothing to lose, I'm guessing we may get to see him in action before the season ends.

Interesting. I thought that given his coaches comments he still had another season left at UAH. Or can he sign an ATO and still head back to school next year?

He's only been there 3 years, but had enough credits before this season to be considered a Senior, and he would have graduated this semester if not signing with the Rangers. It sounds like he will go back and finish up which is good for him. I hope to see him in the NHL someday.

Sather probably thinks he's a center.
