Hypothetically

OK, so, I'm pretty new at this whole NHL thing this season. Always liked hockey, but never followed it.

I am watching it daily now, and I am a Philly 'fan' and an Avalanche 'fan'
(one from each conference, seemed to make sense!!!)

Now, I am from England, and as you know, soccer is our 'football' to you guys. It dominates. My team is Aston Villa.....Anyone who knows anything at ALL about English soccer knows villa have choked BIG time for the 2nd year in a row at the last hurdle.......

I can't help but see the similarities in my hockey team choices for this season?!

I think the Avs have fallen away due to the youth on their roster, and have done remarkably well to get to where they've got.

For the Flyers? Seems dead simple. S**T goaltending!!!!

So, I have to ask, being realistic and allowing for salary caps and likelihood of trades etc, what would you guys as Flyers supporters do about this in the off season?

Who would you proposition for trades, and who would you offer up?

It's clearly a situation that needs to be remedied ASAP, because looking at the East, the Flyers look on REALLY shaky ground for a play off spot this year, and that should not be happening!!

Oh, and go easy on the newbie, i've seen how brutal some of you guys can be on other posts!!

First, I would trade all of Aston Villa for Juventus.

Second, I would become a Serie A fan.

there seems to be a few options:

1. the price is right campaign (or halak)

2. Ray Razor Emery (my personal pick)

3. is anyone still preaching how we need vokoun?

4. talks of Esche are popping up

5. start boucher for the next 16 years.

thats what comes to mind...

Goaltending is only part of the problem. Alot of the games we lost were not because of goaltending. When you lose game and only score one goal you can't pin the loss on the goalie.

i dont know about you, but i see our lack of production as a product of our forwards trying too much to help play defense...knowing if they dont we will give up a weak goal.

but i agree to some extent, the forwards should be producing more. Also no one seems to pick up any trailers.

I would, but there is paint in my living room that still needs to dry, so I feel I will focus on that!!!

Juve went down in my estimation after losing Mellberg.......A beast of a man!!!

I can see where you guys are coming from with the attack being too 'defensive' because they are concerned about leaking goals. But you do sense that some stability between the pipes would free them up.

Having said that, i've been disappointed with Hartnell & Briere this year for their points return. From what i've seen on other forum posts, Hartnell seems to have lost a bit of his quality this year, and not sure what is happening with Briere?

Either way, he isn't posting big numbers, and it strikes me that without the colossal Jeff Carter, Philly wouldn't even be in the play off picture.

I like Richards, but again, his numbers are not great when compared to other guys in his position.

I've heard a few Voukoun shouts, and I would prefer that to Bouch!!! That guy gets beat from all KINDS of ranges!!!

Leighton seemed like he had a good thing going with the D considering he was a waiver pull, but obviously not a long term option.

Tim Thomas from Boston maybe? Although, everytime i've seen him recently, seems he has more holes than swiss cheese!! Again, could be down to a confidence thing, the Bruins look poor this year (except for when I saw them trash the Flyers. Stayed up until 3 in the morning watching that )

There's a thread on the trade section suggesting Carter for Kipper.

While watching the Philly Union game the other day, I googled Juventus.

I saw that too. Me thinkies not the answer some how. How are the Flames getting on anyway? Not in the playoffs? Missing out? Thought so!!

This trade proposition was created by a Flames fan I reckon, someone who thinks Kippers best days are behind him.

He looks good when I see him, and again, preferable to Bouch!! But at the expense of Carter is lunacy. From what I hear he is on a good contract that suits Flyers aswell, so would be even crazier!!!

Now, if it was Briere for Kipper, or Hartnell for Kipper, i'm in!!!

Backstrom (either of them!! ) i'd be happy with, but not at the expense of Jeff!!!

Our numbers fall HORRIBLY without Jeff. Don't get me wrong, Gagne may start posting more positive figures, until he is layed off again, but other than that, there are no consistent scorers on that side I dont think

We actually are a lot like Villa. Big club with a proud history that seem to struggle to win anything in the modern era (although Villa are making a better fist of it) and usually sell out.

Newcastle = Toronto is my other observation. Oh, and Liverpool = Montreal. Fulham = Florida. This is fun.

The only thing I want to watch Giuseppes do is "Sweep-a-da-porch" Its like watching a loud, obnoxious and dysfunctional Nascar team go to town on a slab of concrete. The best part is when both Forty year old sons come up from their bedrooms/parent's basement and argue over which of the 9 straw brooms to use.

Serie A? Are you sure there's not a Crosby sweater hanging beside your man sized tutu?

A Man Utd fan from Wales?

Oh, and Serie A is awful. Terrible crowds (The Championship averages higher), full of corruption and boring, boring football. If you're going to suggest a mainland Europe league that could challenge the Premier League then go with La Liga or the Bundesliga.

I can't even tell what sport you guys are talking about, which leads me to believe that you aren;t talking about the FLyers, and should take this conversation to the OT thread.

Please and Thanks
