Its ludacris that just because of his name, a double minor turns into a match penalty and a suspension. What if Gagne did it? What if Elias did it? Probally at the most would have been 4. They need to call what happens on the ice, not who does it.

.
None of those players would have been suspended if they did what Carcillo did. But we all know how Campbell operates. if you are a bully or have a rep you are going to get suspended. Remember Lucic's high stick in the playoffs last year? he got 1 game and all he was doing was defending himself on a player coming in high on him.
Cammalleri throws a sucker punch on Havlat(I think thats who it was) and nothing even happened to him. not even a penalty.
Campbell does have 2 sets of rules. There is no denying that.

I hate Campbell, but punishing repeat offenders more is not the problem. It makes sense to punish people who do it more often harsher. (see Wisnewski, getting 8 games for his 2nd bad hit of the year)

Similar to the 3 strike rule that exists in the US justice system I think

Enh. Three strikes laws are state statutes (California and Maryland, for example) and have been heavily criticized as too harsh, particularly for non-violent crimes.

But I digress.

Campbell's problem is that some people he refuses to see as repeat offenders (Volchenkov has had a few bad boards before),
not that he punishes repeat offenders

I agree its not the problem. Its being consistant. Which is something we all have complained about for awhile now.

name on the back here, not name on the front. Anyone else on the team gets a minor (maybe double i don't know if clarkson was bleeding). Repeat offender doesn't get the benefit of the doubt, and really they shouldn't

Oh well. Doesnt really hurt us and who really didnt think this would happen?

What does get me mad is Campbell's inconsistency. The guy probablly has that flow chart hanging up in his office and set as the desktop background. And the guy wonders why everyone (well except Pen fans) hates him.

But now we get to see JVR with Richards-Giroux now. (hopefully)

Gagne-Briere-Leino
JVR-Richards-Giroux
Hartnell-Powe-Asham
Cote-Betts-Lappy

Cote is so damn useless.

Well JVR missed last game, so who knows if he is ready for Thursday.

I wish cote wasn't here anymore, we should have Pyorala in.

I'm sorry, but "crosschecking someone in the face" makes this seem like something its not. Clarkson and Carcillo were toe to toe looking to fight and Carcillo's stick rode up and into his Face. The guy was hardly even phased by it.

Its nothing like Whitney's where he just randomly and directly crosschecked a guy in the head. Not even close.

Wouldn't really have a problem with this if there was some sort of consistency. Richards/Cooke no suspensions for big hits to the head (I know they were technically legal at the time). Ovechkin suspended four games for weak boarding call. Volchenkov not penalized at all for a blatant textbook boarding call. Carcillo suspended twice for an inadvertent shot to the face. The NHL needs to stop picking and choosing what it will discipline. All or nothing. Not when they feel like it. If all those things are suspendable. Fine. If none are, that's ok too. But not here and there something might always sometimes kind of possibly be suspendable. It really is embarrassing.

True.

The other problem is that Carcillo gets suspended twice this year, both for infractions that have occurred between two willing participants to a scrap.

Cooke delivers a huge hit to the head of Savard, it's used in NHL's video of what should warrant disciplinary action, but no suspension was issued. Sure, the new "headshot" rule isn't in effect, but any dangerous hits have resulted in suspensions for the last 4 years. Get it straight.

Yikes. Major, maybe. I don't see the point for the suspension.

It doesn't surprise me that there is a suspension given Carcillo's quote after the game (It doesn't look good for me) plus the recent incident with the on-ice official against Boston; though that latter play wasn't egregious enough to be suspension-worthy, officials are off limits and I wouldn't be shocked if the NHL issued a private warning for that and a stern suggestion for anything in the future.

not sure that it's much more than that even in the real world. 3 stitches on the face is nothing, the tiniest cuts on the face get stitches.
