NHL is setting itself up for an impasse hearing

The NHLPA has backed itself into a corner. NO CAP OF ANY KIND.
NHLPA has offered one proposal only. a 24% rollback but with no other ideas on long term system fix. Since that offer, it's been no CAP and what's worse, no discussion on any what if's. No stiff luxury tax that would "act like a cap" so all then NHL has received is a one time rollback of 24% but NO REAL drags on inflation of future contracts.

THe nhl has offered 6 types of proposal last year, all "Cap" based.
2 more Cap proposals since last September.
A Jan 3 proposal and now Hybrid "trigger version proposal"
NHl opens the door slightly to a possible "no linkage" aspect to a cap system.

So far the NHLPA has not even tried to negotiate "ANY VERSION
" of a cap system.

I believe that when the NHLPA refused to negotiate the ( terms and conditions of the triggers) of this "we will try your system but if it is proven not to work a cap is in and that's it"
This will put the NHLPA in a NO WIN area when or if their is an impass meeting.

I believe that the NHLPA is being slowly outmanuvered by the NHL. The NHLPA should have countered every NHP cap proposal with a Luxury tax based system proposal.

If the season is cancelled and an impass declaired, I would not like to be on the NHLPA side facing an arbitrator and explaining why the NHLPA made only one proposal and that's it. No further varriations of the original proposal and no negotiations on NHL cap systems whatsoever.

At one point NHLPA's refusal to also offer other proposals is going to cost them BIG TIME.
The NHL has slowly outmanuvered the NHLPA, using Goodonows own hard headedness against him. Goodenow has focused so hard on the current battle that he has forgotten to defend against the entire war. HE has been out mauvered and he still does not see that.

If replacement players are allowed next year many of the current NHLPA player will cross the line. Nobody wants to be first but after the first few do the flood gates will open. I expect that 200 or more would cross the line and final judgement from the fans will dictate the future of the NHLPA.

If the fans were comming to see "INDVIDULE PLAYERS" OR their "TEAM" play hockey
If it's their team they want to see, then the area will be filled and the NHLPA has been broken.

For Goodenow to win he has to make the NHL back down or win the impass meeting.
That's a big gamble with 1.5 billion of other peoples money.

In an other time he might have been looking forward to joining Jimmy Hoffa if he losses his war.
