Bozak's shooting percentage

Anyone else notice that Bozak's shooting percentage is one of the tops in the league? Of players that have played at least 30 games, he is 5th in the entire league in shooting percentage at 19%.

Would like to see him start shooting a bit more with that kind of accuracy.

I don't want anyone to say anything to him to change his game. Leave TyBo alone.

Let the man do what he's doing. Use the summer to weight train and get some muscle on him and he's good.

Pretty impressive stat. Wouldn't mind seeing a few more shots from him either, though I won't object if he keeps setting up goals. As long as we're throwing out statistics, he's also tops in PPG for rookies this year with 0.77 (just including players that have played more than 3 games, anyway) - with a full season's production at this rate, he'd have gotten more points than Duchene.

Of course, he's also five years older than Duchene, so gotta temper the enthusiasm somewhat. Still good to see.

He's a pass first player much like Thornton, he takes high percentage shot when he does shoot. He's just very pass-oriented and patient.

He could play like Jason Blake if you would like that?

All this tells me is that he's not shooting enough, and only shooting when it's a clear shot.

He's got a nice accurate little shot - he has to use it more.

but he's always looking to pass to Kessel instead.

And Kessel has 30 goals! I wonder if Kessel is just a name-brand product of Bozak???? Anyways, I like this - the guy's a playmaker and is only shooting when it is in his clearest advantage. His playmaking is very direct and effective. I've never seen a playmaker quite like him on the Leaf's. The guy would be on pace for 20 goals throughout a whole season, that is very decent for a guy who can also play a sound, defensive, and intellegent game.

Most of his misses come from shooting high rather than a goalie making a save. He doesn't throw many pucks on net, he usually only shoots from a scoring area, so it makes sense.

what it should be telling you is that he picks his shots... he'll shoot only when he knows he can score, because his role on the team is to pass.

When the opportunity presents itself, he'll take the shot, otherwise, he'll pass to a goalscorer.

Disregard all the great things Bozak does, he has no chance of being a first line center.

His name isn't big enough.

Bozak is also scoring at a better pace than any other rookie.

Best faceoff percentage and most TOI (forwards), too.

And I think he should be more selfish and stop being so picky with his shots, because he's got a nice accurate shot, and he's been forcing passes too much lately.

No, he's a pass first guy. It's what he does.

He only takes the shot when he see's an obvious opportunity, hence the high shooting %

Many of goals IIRC have been from within a few feet of the blue paint...he's shooting at a high clip yes but that stat can be misleading. He's definitely a pass first player who skates well, great at draws and good on defense...everything you look for in a centermen. He doesn't have much of a shot but he's obviously been very efficient. He has to work on his shot a bit, seems kind of weak and down the road he'll have to improve on it and force the opposition to respect it.

He has a terrific backhand, many if not a majority of his goals were scored of the backhand.

Wilson should try Bozak in a shootout.

The question is...

Bozak>J. Malkin

we need him to feed kessel, and if he can get a few goals for himself, even better

The S% might not be a meaningful stat because of the small number of games. Staal was 22% his rookie year but after 320 games its 12.7% so even a whole season isn't a guarantee.

Most of the other top % guys aren't real snipers. Bozak's 22 goal pace fits in perfectly. Antro is also 19% this year. Not a 30 goal man among them until you get down to Stamkos at 17%.

Also those few guys that sustain that high percentage but don't shoot that much, usually don't change that part of their game. Tanguay is a great example at almost 19% for his career but zero 30 goal seasons because he takes 120 shots a year. Bozak is on a pace for around 100 shots so definitely something he needs to concentrate a bit on. If he slumps to only 15% which is still great that makes him a 15 goal man.

Being a rookie and naturally being inclined to feed Kessel I think his SOG are abnormally low and that he will shoot more as he gains confidence.

Bozak has really shown that he deserves to play in the NHL. Much better than I would have thought. So kudos to the Leafs managment.

Having said that, the high shooting percentage could easily indicate that he is having a run of luck. I gather he is around 19%. Good shooters should get around 13% or so, so based on 13% he would normally have around 70% as many goals.
