It's actually more of a stark contrast than just the position difference (i.e. wing versus defense). Gustafsson's numbers are based on three years (he's only a junior), whereas Testwuide was a senior. In Testwuide's defense, he had an awful junior year at CC. Testwuide is a really late bloomer. I would expect he has 2-3 years in the AHL ahead of him before he makes to the NHL (if he does).

Note - I hope it's OK that I'm posting here even though I'm not a Flyers fan. I just happen to follow NCAA hockey quite closely and figured I'd offer what insight I could.

Yeah Testwuide is a big guy, so I'm not surprised he is a late bloomer. Thanks for the info, all are welcome here.

What do you think of Gustafsson? a year in the AHL, then maybe NHL?

Gustaffson is an intriguing player because of his offensive skill set. Very smart with the puck. The only real negative to his game that I've seen is that he just doesn't play a physical game, at all. Not that lack of physicality is really a minus in your organization since you have a lot of other guys that can fill that role. If I had to guess, I would say that he'll definitely spend all of next year in the AHL and then the second year will be a make or break year for him. That's just a guess though. One thing that he does have going for him and that should help him make the jump is that he played his college hockey in the CCHA, which means that he generally faced larger forwards on the fore check and held up pretty well. Like I said before, the thing that impressed me the most about him was his passing, his decision-making, and his ability to get his point shots through to the net.

I'm curious, did Homer expect to do this when we got rid of our draft picks?

Yes pretty much.. Now Flyers fans will be watching crappy prospects. 1st has size but does not have speed, 2nd has speed but not physical, 3rd is good all around but is AHL material and can't finish, 4th conditioning, 5th lazy, 6th no tools, 7th tools with out tool box and so on.

Well if you put it that way, I can easily talk about every single prospect in hockey, and list the bad things about them.. No one is perfect. Hey I can list bad things about NHL players also.

well of course.. Thats why you have hope and imagination as well as strong believe in organization as well as current GM.

and you can always say something like: Martin St. Louis was the late bloomer. Why can't such and such do it. It's fun.

I would say so. He's a pretty good judge of talent but there's just not that much talent that has escaped notice until now.

7. Erik Gustafsson/RD — Northern Michigan, 5-10/180, Dec. 15, 1988 (Jr.)

Aggressive offensive rearguard who quarterbacks the PP with rapid and intelligent puck distribution. Talented passer and puckhandler. Gifted and agile skater with excellent quickness. Undersized and comes up short 1-on-1 against bigger opponents. Does compete defensively aided by quick feet and a skilled stick. The top puck-moving defenseman available.
Testwuide is listed #9 on their list, but they don't have any write up.

Ok, we got him, and I know Hutton, but I can't remember who else we got from college this season. Can someone name them?

EDIT: I also realize we got Testwuide, and so we have 2 off the top 10 list. Can we get any more? Lol.

If we got him, do you think we would even need draft picks for this coming draft session?

This.

I really like what Holmgren's doing though. Between our current prospects, our few picks in the upcoming draft(s), and all these free agent signings I think our prospect pool will be fine.

I really like this signing by the way. The guy seems to have some attributes that should translate well to the NHL level.

Polacek? Its always good to have draft picks. Pola isnt exactly young at 20 yrs old. He is small at 5-8 or 5-9, but from scouting reports (and games Ive seen him at), isnt afraid to go after the big guys. Also they said he's the best offensive wise out of all the NCAA fee agents.

Also, we only have what, 4 picks instead of 6? Might as well keep them.

Well still, it would be nice to get him and get him into our system to make him into something very NHL worthy.

The guy has the skills. Its no question about that. Its his height that is really scary though. 5-8 is SMALL. Like really small. His offensive talent is second to none though. This guy picks corners and makes passes like he was a top 5 draft pick. Theres no reason not to take a chance though.
