It sucks that he's ready to move on when his value is lower now. No way we get an equivalent package of a Jeff Carter, a 1st round pick and a prospect for Kaberle anymore
Burke wouldn't ask Kaberle to waive his NTC but he would ask Wilson to lean on Kaberle to try and get him to want to move. Unfortunately it took to long and Kaberle is now starting to go public that he wants out right at the worst time when his NTC actually expires.
It probably won't effect his value that much but one year remaining on the contract reduces his value and knowing he wants out reduces his value.

Leafs should be happy if they get anything for Kaberle, he's given more to the Leafs than RW ever will.

The CBJ are getting desperate, and NEED help on the blueline. They need to make some kind of splash in the off season to push ticket sales. Fans are tired of building for the future, and hearing about the organization losing $. Season ticket holders are starting drop. Filatov quit on the team, and may not be welcomed back.
They had great momentum after making the playoffs last year, followed by an under performing year. The young players (Russell, Vorachek, Brassard) continue to improve, and Nash needs more help.
I think it's clear that Burke requires everyone to play a physical game, even the bare minimum of physicality. The days of skill guys not hitting is long gone, everyone hits, everyone has to play physical. Kaberle is stuck in a bygone era in which he refuses to engage physically, play hard in his own end, and it costs the team. Wendel Clark said it himself, the biggest difference between his era and the current one is that everyone, including the superstars, hits and can skate.
You can go and blame his line mates for his piss poor +/-, but you can see his lack of commitment to play D. If I were his coach telling him to play physical, work his own end and he ignored me, I'd call him out too. D-man who gets first PP unit minutes, opens the season on fire, disappears, has the worst +/- on the team, and people blame the coach. love it.

i dont think there are any conspiracy theories going on with kabs i think he is just in a bit of a slump. a reduction in icetime probably doesnt help, not having a steady defensive partner doesnt help, and playing for a losing team again probably doesnt help.
based on every move burke has made i have no doubt that kabs is as good as gone irrespective of what comes out of burkes mouth. just cause he doesnt bash him to the media ala the mccabe situation doesnt mean he doesnt have every intention of trading the guy.
bottom line, whatever team kabs is traded too is going to have quit the treat watching his skating and breakout pass

Yeah they need to compete but they weren't close enough to be mortgaging the future. I could see them trying to move Filitov's rights but not the pick. At least not both.

I hate Filatov, but I would still do this deal, for the simple fact that it is 2 boom or busts, not just 1.
Filatov is a whiner but maybe being traded might be the kick in the ass he needs to realize that theres more to being a pro then just goal sucking.
CBJ might want more for this, I would be willing to also give a mid level prospect, just because were also receiving a top 10 pick.

Wouldn't be unusual for there to be conditions on the trade, ex. another pick if he re-signs with the team traded to. When we can afford to be like that great, but your talking about a team that hasn't won a cup in 40+ years. I think if assets are retired for the leafs, then I see it as a failure.
Agreed....I hate everything about Filatov, but Kulie could show this kid the meaning of hard work....And what it takes to be a pro in this league.

A report in a Toronto newspaper suggests Leafs defenceman Tomas Kaberle has "had enough" of coach Ron Wilson's lack of respect for his players.
The Toronto Sun quoted an unnamed source saying Kaberle, the longest-serving Leaf now in his 11th season, is "at his wit's end" with the second-year coach and that Kaberle is sure to be dealt in the off-season.
Kaberle has one year remaining on a contract that includes a no-trade clause, but the Leafs have window to deal him because the team failed to make the playoffs.
Wilson is not shy about directing criticism, often with a trace of sarcasm, at players and the article points to comments Wilson made following Tuesday's 3-2 loss to Atlanta that officially eliminated the team from the post-season. Wilson called out unnamed defencemen with poor plus-minus ratings that made it easy to identify the culprits as Kaberle and Francois Beauchemin. Kaberle is minus-16 on the season and Beauchemin is minus-15.
